ReadyNAS NV+ defaulting to 192.168.168.168

Hi,

today when logging into my desktop my ReadyNAS NV+ was not available and when unplugging/plugging in the network cable it is defaulting to 192.168.168.168 IP address. when i unplug the network cable the front display shows:

1500
C: 3.2g / 5.6TB Free

then when i plug in the cable it shows "Requesting IP Address..." then ends up with 192.168.168.168. i have tried to use a cross over cable while setting desktop to the 192.168.168.x IP range but was unable to ping the device, also tried resetting the router but it doesn't seem to have any effect. the network lights are on and blinking.

also the router logs do not show a DHCP Request for said device.

any ideas on what could be wrong with it? i have not tried to reboot yet as i believe that would require a hard reset (holding down the power button till it turns off) which i would not want to do if i don't have to.

    First of all, you don't need a crossover cable with the NAS (ever).

    If you connect directly to the desktop you should be able to reach frontview by browsing to 192.168.168.168. Perhaps try that again with a normal cable.

    i just tried using the cable my desktop has going to the router and setting static ip to 192.168.168.167 but when trying to ping 192.168.168.168 it returned with a "Destination host unreachable."

    also RAIDar doesn't find it when it does its scan

    If you press the power button for about 5 seconds (till the disk LEDs start blinking and you see shutting down on the display) then release and it should do a safe shutdown.
  • thanks for that info, the reboot worked. been a few years since i had to reboot said device.
