ReadyNAS NV+ failed disk replaced
Hello,
I have the ReadyNas NV+. It came with four 750Gig drives. I saw a message on the front of the unit that one of my drives was experiencing errors, so I removed drive #1, the unit no longer gave the warning and it continued to work beautifully. So, I purchased a new 1TB drive from the approved list, powered the unit down, inserted the new drive into the slot for drive #1 and powered it back up. Now, only the lights for drives #1 and #3 are lit and there's no message in the front window of the unit, which is just dark. It's been this way for 24 hours. Now, I try to power the unit down, but no matter how long I push the power button, nothing happens. I try playing music from the unit through my Sonos system, but it says it cannot access the ReadyNas NV+. I tried rebooting by disconnecting the power cord and reinserting, but this just returns the unit to the same state; drives #1 and #3 lit, drives #2 and #4 don't light up, unit won't power down no matter how long I push the button, Sonos can't access the ReadyNas NV+ and it doesn't show up on my Network.
Please help.
Thanks,
Rob

Hello rsbeck,
There are some important details you need to include. Please see questions below:
- Did you replace the disk in slot 1 with 1TB or this was vacant prior to inserting the 1TB?
- How many disks are currently inserted and what is the size of each?
- What is the RAID level?
- What is the firmware version?
- Have you checked if you can still get to the NAS and access the files after removing the 1TB disk?
- Do you have full backup of the data?
Welcome to the community!

Just to clarify: This is an NV+ V2 (external power supply) or NV+ V1 (internal power supply)? Is there any network activioty indicated by the NIC LEDs?
You should have replaced the drive with the power on, BTW.

Re-answering because the forum must have been reset to an earlier time.
That is an indication of corrupt boot flash. Hopefully, a USB boot recovery will fix it right up. See ReadyNAS LED Lanhuage for more LED codes. While a USB recovery shouldn't harm your data volume, you can put in a spare drive in place of your array if you want extra protection. If you do that, though, make sure you are restoring the same version as is on the drives.

Hi Sandshark,
This is an NV+ V1. LED screen on front of unit is dark. I wish I would have replaced the faulty drive with the power on. I have an extra blank 1TB drive. In my array I had 4 750GB drives, but I replaced the faulty one with a 1TB drive from the approved list. How do I do a USB boot recovery?
Thanks,
Rob
