ReadyNAS NV not upgrading
Hello,
I just got this ReadyNAS and am having trouble updating it.
Model: Infrant ReadyNAS NV
Serial: 000da201222d
Firmware: RAIDiator™ v3.01c1-p6 [1.00a034]
Memory: 256 MB [2.5-3-3-7]
When I try a remote upgrade and click the "Check for Update" button I get an error: "Unable to connect to the update server or retrieve update information. Click Check for Update to retry."
When I I try a local upgrade (file RAIDiator4-1.9) The "Apply" button is not activated.
Is it possible to upgrade this NAS further? I am hoping that upgrading it will fix some of the other problems I've been having.
Thank you.

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThat firmware is almost 6 years old: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=7836
I don't think Remote updates work any more from that old firmware.
Do an OS Re-install (http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how_do_i_use_the_boot_menu) and then try a local firmware update again.
What web browser and version are you using? It's possible your web browser is not compatible with the old firmware you are running. Changes to the web browser in the past 6 years may have broken compatibility.
4.1.10 is the latest firmware not 4.1.9. - jrdbrrAspirantThank you for pointing me in the right direction. I will try this now!
-i actually had 4.1.9 accidentally I was using 4.1.10 when I acutally was attempted it.
-i'm a chrome man
-i knew it was old but jeez! - jrdbrrAspirantHello, quick reply is thus: The os re-install did not seem to work. I lost my volumes but I notice no difference. I'm going to google a manual reinstall and see how we can go from there. If any of you beautiful people can help me / point me in the right direction, Thank You.
-J - jrdbrrAspirantI am attempting to do a USB reload.
http://home.bott.ca/webserver/?p=159 - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredDid that work? Note to update the firmware on the disks you would need to do an OS Re-install after the USB Boot Recovery
- jrdbrrAspirantHello, thanks for your continued involvement in this. It does not seemed to have worked. I'm wondering if it is due to the fact that there is no Firmware Option for the NV listed at http://www.readynas.com/kb/home#How_can_I_perform_a_Boot_Recovery_using_a_USB_flash_device%3F - I was using the one listed for the NV + . I'm going to try it once more now just in case it is user error.
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThe NV and NV+ (v1) are pretty much the same as each other.
Try doing the firmware update using a different web browser preferably a very old version - jrdbrrAspirantOkay I should be able to find an old version of a browser on the repos. I tried redoing the OS reload and the device still has not come back up. Would one usually need to remove the USB after the reload or should the device restart and find the network by itself?
- Curt1AspirantI'm facing the same challenge, trying to upgrade a never-used Infrant NV+ I got on ebay. I hope you'll report if you have any success. I am not qualified to theorize, but I think there are two broad possibilities:
1) There is some issue with the browser I'm using (Safari); I'll try some others. I've got some vintage Macs that still run.
2) Frontview looks for the string "RAIDiator-3" in the update filename before activating the upload and verify button. Or some such sanity check. The solution might be to do an update to the last 3.x version, which presumably anticipated upgrades to 4.x. I have not looked for one yet. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThe O.P. bought a unit with the latest 3.x firmware. If you had a 4.x firmware installed there would be an easy workaround to update the firmware but unfortunately you don't.
Remember 3.x is very old firmware so you should try using a very old version of a web browser and/or multiple different web browsers
