ReadyNAS NV+ Seems really slow
I just bought a ReadyNAS NV+ 2x750 and am trying to transfer all of my data from a raid array to it so I can retire my old server. First I tried to use EMC to get all the files over to the NAS, but...

The settings of the NAs did not really seem to impact on the situation, using Vista SP1; one recent change that seems to at least have to resolved most of the "stalls" was in the wireless interface configuration: enabling the "enhanced througput" option in the advanced tab has defenitely improved matters.
I too am having the same exact problems as the OP. I am using a Windows Vista Asus laptop with wired Gigabit ethernet set at Jumbo Frame size 9014. Transfer speeds vary all over the place. Sometimes will transfer a batch of jpeg files at 2 to 3MBps speed, other times might transfer at 10 to 12 MBps speed, other times might go up at 20Mbps speed and other times might crawl at 400 to 500KBps slow speed.
Transfering a large segment of folders full of various data, speed starts out fast (say around 10 to 12MBps) but as OP described in his case, it gradually and continually slows down in transfer rate until it rests at the low KBps range of say 300 to 500Kbps! Damn this. Disappointing and frustrating. I was NEVER able to successfully complete a large backup transfer of folders over to the NAS nor from the NAS to another NAS or PC because of this slow down near the end of transfers! I always wind up cancelling cause it turns into "Days to complete" slow speed.
Whether or not this is related to a Windows Vista OS bug or a ReadyNAS bug, it is a bug that Netgear team should really investigate SERIOUSLY and not ignore it I am disappointed in this aspect of my ReadyNAS DUO and ReadyNAS NV+ that I blew big money on. Money that could have served me better elsewhere in hind-sight!
I am using firmware v4.1.6-T21-Beta on my ReadyNAS' and also had same buggy behavour on v4.1.5 firmware.
Netgear development team should discuss this bug with their Microsoft contacts to see where exactly the problem is... and once and for all FIX it! To me, it seems like there is a memory management bug somewhere in either Vista or ReadyNAS code where it gets choked off near the end of transferring a large bulk of folders and files. Transfer one large file, it goes fine. Try specifying to transfer many files contained in folders with many subfolders, etc. and it will choke up and slow to a creeping crawl near the later half of the transfer seemly never to complete for days.
Please address this flaw ASAP! Don't sit on it. It does the ReadyNAS DUO and NV+ line of products no good at all! I behooves me that all the pro reviewers never once mention such poor behavour in their reports... if they did, I would not have purchased these ReadyNAS. I wish those reviewers were more thorough in their testing or 'ahem, cough, cough'... more honest in reporting this frustrating fault.
All I can ask is for Netgear to finally PLEASE get this fixed! Thank You!
Oh, one more thing I want to add... I tried that BS software called Teracopy... it does not improve things at all and goes just as slow or slower than Windows own copying function. As far as I am concerned, it is probably just advertising hype for getting Teracopy program plug.
It does not work faster.
