R6120 seems to block Ecobee thermostat
After several months of use, my Ecobee3 Lite can no longer connect to their server. I first noticed this after a brief power failure. I've had failures several times though with issue.
If I use my phone as a hotspot, the Ecobee connects fine. If I wire my laptop directly to the cable modem (bypassing the router) and set it up as a hotspot, it too allows the Ecobee to connect. This seems to indicate the router is at fault. I"m at a loss. I've reloaded firmware, stored factory defaults, etc and still no luck. Any advice?

I am using access control.
Yes, I've reset everything a zillion times. hahaha The ecobee is not blocked by the router. It CAN ping various addresses okay but it won't connect to whatever servers ecobee uses UNLESS I bypass the router via a hotspot. My ISP, spectrum, tells me my IP address scheduled to be changed next Thursday so I'll see what happens then. thanks for your input

***edit: I've had power failures before withOUT failures.
Try a different DNS Server. Here's a few. Also remember to change the ipv6 dns server if ipv6 is enabled.
CloudFlare
IPv4: 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1
IPv6: 2606:4700:4700:0:0:0:0:1111 and 2606:4700:4700:0:0:0:0:1001
GoogleDNS
IPv4: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
IPv6: 2001:4860:4860:0:0:0:0:8888 and 2001:4860:4860:0:0:0:0:8844Thank you for the reply. Changing the DNS servers didn't help. My latest thinking is that my IP address is being blocked by Ecobee. I noticed my laptop when wired directly to modem and used as a hotspot for ecobee, it connects fine. The only difference, I see, is that the IP address is different for the laptop vs the router. I found my router's IP is blacklisted on 3 sites presumably for Spectrum allowing some sort of spamming going on from their email address (I don't use it). So I'll go down this road and see what I can do.
What modem/gateway is the router connected to?
Its attached to a modem supplied by Spectrum. I think its gateway is 71.76.72.1 . Its model is EN2251

Hey topgun1953
I have exactly the same problem and I already tried two different brands of routers, but none of them works. I have the exact same thing where the thermostate can ping everything, but cannot connect to ecobee.com. Everything works after connecting to my cell phone's hotspot.
Did it end up working for you, the scheduled IP address change?
- Actually it just started working on its own the day before my IP was due to change. My Ip didn't change as I was told too, so I'm thankful it started working on its own. Bottom line. I think Ecobee was the problem.

I plan to contact their support again tomorrow. I think they are blocking my IP. When I tried to telnet 161.38.184.16 8089 from my desktop (connected to ethernet), It said "Connected to 161.38.184.16" and then immediately "Connection closed by foreign host". Then I connected to my VPN, switching to any random IP address, and did the same, it now stayed connected for 10 seconds before it was closed. I think if my router or my ISP is blocking them, I shouldn't see the connected message from telnet without VPN.
