ReadyNAS NV+ V2 Registration Transfer
I recently purchased an NV+ V2 off of ebay, which was listed as "NEW" upon arrival it clearly is not. Before I sent it back, I was going to work out a deal that if the warranty/registration can be transferred into my name I would take a partial refund for the error of the listing.
I've spent some time on the phone with Netgear, only for them to say that it isn't "possible" though the device has ~2yrs left of warranty I cannot register it into my name. The seller is a pawn store and received the item from the original owner but does not have contact information from them. Since I have the original box with UPC, and the device that clearly works, why can't I re-register the serial number into my Netgear account? Is this actually possible and I'm going about it the wrong way?
I don't want to return the item, but I don't want to keep it without having hardware support on it in the event that it does have an issue that is covered. Is there any help that can be provided to me?
Thank you for your time and assistance.

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI think that Netgear warranties are generally only provided to the original purchaser and are not transferable. That is clearly stated for the ultra (http://www.netgear.com/landing/ultra/ultra.aspx) - though I didn't see a clear statement of warranty terms for the v2.
- DasQballAspirantYeah, I don't understand why it wouldn't be transferable or at least allow the re-registration to a new person. It doesn't make sense, if the person no longer needs it, they can't sell it to someone who does?
Just to be clear, this is a RND4000-200NAS v2 so it doesn't fit in the realm of business like the Ultras do, this is considered home. Though when calling support I was routed to Business, which is odd in my opinion. - OOM-9NETGEAR ExpertThere are some cases that we can transfer the registration from one user to another. This will require a bill of sale or proof of purchase. There are some of therms that I am not up to speed on, but I can look into it.
Do you have the case number? - EtzAspirant

Actually I was able to open a support ticket when I sold my Duo (v1), and they happily transfered registration to a new owner, who created account specially for that.
Only thing that was required was an e-mail to be sent with unit serial number, a copy of original bill (proof of purchase) and details of a new account.
Also warranty was carried over to a new user.
All this took less than 24h and 3 e-mails, which is excellent, regarding timezone differencies and so on... - DasQballAspirantOOM-9 - I sent you a PM with my ticket number.
Etz - I wish that would be possible for me, though I can't and likely won't have contact with the original owner to do that... :-( - EtzAspirant

Actually makes me wonder though, maybe it is only possible (they are agreeing to do it), when a original owner initiates a transfer?
Lets hope that OOM-9 can sort it out for you... - OOM-9NETGEAR ExpertI can look into what I am able to do.
- OOM-9NETGEAR ExpertIt seems there may have been a confusion on the warranty transfer policy in the past. It should not be a transferable warranty.
StephenB link posted does show the correct information: http://www.netgear.com/landing/ultra/ultra.aspx - DasQballAspirantThank you for clearing that up for future reference!
