ReadyNas OS 6.6.0 upgrade failed and break NAS
Hello,
I have a huge issue with my ReadyNas 10200 since the upgrade to the ReadyNas 10200.
Yesteday, when I've been connected to the web portal of my NAS, I received the notification that I could upgrade the firmware to the 6.6.0 version.
I've clicked OK, and it seems to be a normal upgrade. But after more than one hour, the NAS was not on the network.
I went to it and it seems to be in a strange status : power led just pulsating, ACT led is OK and the two disks one also.
After 2 hours, I've powered down the NAS and try to boot but same result: after 5 seconds of blinking the power led pulsating.
I've tried to make an OS reinstallation with the boot menu but same result: after 5 seconds of blinking the power led pulsating.
I've tried to make a factory reset but same result: after 5 seconds of blinking the power led pulsating.
I've tried to make an OS reinstallation by USB but it didn't work: the power led and the backup led blinking but there is no activity on the usb key. I've prepared the key with this protocol: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/29952/~/how-do-i-use-the-usb-recovery-tool-on-my-readynas-os-6-storage-system%3F?cid=wmt_netgear_organic.
For the moment, I think the OS image is corrupted but I don't know how to reinstall it correctly unless by USB but it doesn't work.
So, I have an useless NAS which cannot boot correctly, without network interface up. Impossible to connect to it by ReadyCloud or ReadyRar.
Does someone have an idea in order for me to get back my ReadyNas?
Thanks in advance.
Regards.
Noel
Ok I have found a solution.
I retried to update the firmware with an USB drive.
I've used another one than yesteday (yesteday USB3 16 Gio, today USB2 2 Gio) and it seems to work with this one. Not with the firmware 6.6.0 but I also tried with the 6.5.2 one and IT WORKS.
It seems that the update 6.6.0 has been never applied and an update to the 6.5.2 was taken in account.
I've retrieved my NAS, my data and my configuration without lost.
Regards
Mod note: one shouldn't downgrade from 6.6.0 to 6.5.2 but if the upgrade to 6.6.0 never happened then doing what ncante might be O.K.

Which firmware did you update from?
So you are unable to get into the boot menu?
- ncanteTutor
I started from the firmware 6.5.1.
No. I'm able to access to the boot menu but it doesn't work.
I mean, I can choose an option on the boot menu. But when I press on the Reset to choose, the Power led blinking 5 seconds and after just pulsating and nothing happen.

Which boot menu options have you tried?
- ncanteTutorI trier OS reinstallation, factory reset ans memory test.
The last one seems to work but I'm notre sure because I interrupted the test - J_BalcerAspirant
Hello,
I've got the same issue. While upgrading from ReadyNas OS 6.5.2 to 6.6.0 on my RN10400 it suddenly disappeared from my local network. I checked the device and there is a "do_exit+8ec" message displayed on the LCD. The power button is blinking and does not power off the device when pressed. Ultimately I had cut off the power to the device and powered it on again, but the message still appeared.
OS reinstallation, Factory Reset didn't work either. I have even changed the hard drives to some spare ones, but to no avail.
The NAS is a company property and there are sensitive data stored on it. I have a backup just in case, but what about the hardware? Seems to me like the automatic update failed due to some reasons.
I would be glad for any help.
Kind regards,
Jaroslaw.

You could try disabling WoL and then try the update again. If WoL shows as disabled already try enabling it then disabling it again.

I had the same thing happen to me today. I have a ReadyNas104, do regular updates, the last one was very recently. Was running 6.5.2 when it asked my today to update to 6.6.0.
Started as usual, but then I got the do_exit+8ec screen on the LED and it hung there forever.
I'm trying to follow suggestions here to return to 6.5.2 but I can't get any USB drive to work. It keeps saying USB boot failed!
All the drives are Fat32 formatted. Wondering is there any specific allocation unit size I should set the drive to? Is that why it doesn't work?
I really need help since I can't access any of my info!
Thanks

Hello,
I had the same problem, and hopefully the usb recover worked perfectly.
But I'm wondering if you retried to update to 6.6.0 after, or if you know why the update failed ?
- ncanteTutor
Hello,
The USB drive that I’ve used is a very simple 2GiB formatted in fat32 with 4kiB allocation units.
I hope you will find a solution for your NAS.

Same USB characterisitcs for me.
I tried the update again, same result.
But i can't find any log that show the root cause of the update failing...
- adrien60TutorI tried to remove all disks, but the result is the same.
So it means the kernel panic occurs before loading what is on disks.
So that can't be caused by an installed app... - adrien60TutorI tried to put a spare disk, install 6.5.2, Factory reset, all is OK.
Then upgrade to 6.6.0, same error again.
