ReadyNAS Pro 6 Disk space not increasing after expansion

Had 6 x 2TB drives installed.

Removed one, replaced with a 3TB, rebuilt. Removed another 2TB, replaced with a 3TB and rebuilt. No change. Replaced and rebuilt one more time (now 3 x 2TB, 3 x 3TB). No change in drive space. Rebooted, no change.

Any suggestions? Let me know if I need to provide any more information.

There is an 8 TB expansion limit (meaning that the volume cannot be expanded more than 8 TB from the the starting point). Do you recall how many disks were in place when you installed (or at the last factory default).

Also, what firmware is running on the Pro?

The device predates my employment. however it is currently below 8TB total space (specifically 7304 GB) so it is unlikely that it is affected by that limit. That being said, estimating from the logs it looks like it started out at 2TB

RAIDiator 4.2.21. I've seen that there is an update, but I'm rarely here during downtime, and don't know how long an update will bring the unit down for.

I see no reason to upgrade the NAS right now, I think you should sort the expansion issue first.

If it started at 2 TB it would be capped at 10 TB (which would be about 9300 TB in the power-of-two units the NAS uses). The only way to overcome that limit would be to rebuild the NAS and restore the data from backup.

Was the NAS configured for dual-redundancy? If not the initial 7304 volume size was too small.

If you haven't filed an on-line support request, I suggest you do so (if you have a support contract in place, start with phone support instead).
  • Dual redundancy is correct.

    I suppose I'll contact support.
