ReadyNAS RNDU6000 & Total Anxiety!
Hello NetGear people.
I recently bought a RNDU6000 system and since i am already the owner of a ReadyNAS Duo it was an awesome upgrade, but stuff went wrong and this is what
happened:
01. The RNDU6000 arrived and i removed disc 2 out of my Duo system leaving it with a non-protected disc left (full of data).
02. The disc removed from the Duo ended up in the RNDU6000 which initialized it and everything was fine and dandy.
03. I started copying over the data from the Duo through my network to the 2GB disc in the RNDU6000.
04. When finished i removed the last disc from the DUO and put it in the RNDU6000 which now contained two 2GB drives.
05. Everything went fine and they synced and what not.
06. Now four of my six 3TB WD RED harddrives arrived and i started to plug them into the RNDU6000.
07. With 2 2TB Harddrives and 4 3TB Harddrives syncing and having a blast i left the RNDU6000 to it.
08. Now the last two 3TB WD Red arrived.
09. Believing in the hot swap principle i was used to during my years with the Duo i removed disc 2 (2TB) from the RNDU6000 and replaced it with a 3TB and they started to sync.
10. After syncing i removed the last 2TB (disc 1 in the RNDU6000) and now things became strange.
11. The RNDU6000 kept asking for a 2TB harddrive after i put in the last 3TB (at this state the RNDU6000 was filled with 3TB harddrives).
12. After numerous amounts of reboots and what not it continued rebuilding or syncing and i put the two 2TB harddrives back into the Duo.
13. Perhaps a mistake here, i fired up the Duo since the RNDU6000 seemed to work okey and it initialized disc 1 (not sure about the second disc though).
14. The RNDU6000 gave me messages of the errornous kind and i paniced and removed disc 2 out of the Duo (hot swap style).
15. Now i found out that the data on the RNDU6000 where getting more and more hard to access.
16. Now the data previously found was not found at all and to top that not even a single volume was found.
17. In pure panic i have been searching the web for days and im not sure what to believe.
18. I tried different recovery programs to check if there was any data at all on any of my discs (careful not to change a thing on any of them) and i did find ALOT of video files etc.
19. Since i am pretty new to data recovery i left the drives alone but i did see that the RNDU6000 had ALOT of music, videos etc so my data must be there.
20. I ran out of energy, hope etc. What to do? What do i do now NetGear? I might have been a bit too enthusiastic but please save my data. I have the last pictures of my dad in there somewhere, even
the CD we played for him at his funeral (he died 2010), and also alot of other stuff that i can't wipe with a factory default.
Is it possible to remotely do something? You are more than welcome to make an attempt.

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI suggest making a support request. If you purchased within the last 90 days you are entitled to free phone support, otherwise use support.netgear.com.
- TheBalconyManAspirantThanks man, i'll try the support.
Yeah, i've only had it for about a week so other than my total fear of loosing important data i am eager to start setting up my new system. - TheBalconyManAspirantQuick update, i reinstalled the firmware and my harddrives are going from dead to green, one by one.
The volume isn't accesible though but when i browse the network in the file expolorer i can find
the admin and home folder on the RNDU6000, both empty though.
Very strange. - I wouldn't do anything else to it. It might not be possible to retrieve your data but the more you do the worse it may be. Contact support.
Sounds to me like you hit a limit...
Either the 8TB online expansion limit or the 16TB total volume limit (without a factory default) or both.
I'm not sure what happens when you try to go exceed these limits (if it lets you). - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserIt shouldn't let you exceed them.
It is concerning that he only sees empty folders. - TheBalconyManAspirant

Yes, where could the data be?
I do see alot of "linuxlibraries" but i can't find my libraries, perhaps they are hidden somewhere among all those libraries?
Perhaps it's not possible to view one harddrive at a time? Maybe the data is spread out all over the 6 harddrives.
Man, i thought i was kick ass with this setup guess i was a little too eager to set things up  .
I really hope there is a way to save it, the old 2TB harddrives that contained the origial data could maybe be a good choice to check
if one would give data recovery a try but what program is the best? And easiest?
Where on the 6TB harddrives should the data be? I mean among all those linux libraries? - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserWith raid the data is spread across the drives. On a pro or ultra it would be in /C.
