ReadyNAS Ultra 2 LAN slow
Ciao.
I have a Readynas Ultra 2 with 2x WD RED 3 TB.
I used to have the HDs in a Raid 0 configuration... but few days ago without warning I have lost everything.
My previous configuration was the Ultra attached to a Wifi AC router and the PC connected via wifi AC with the router.
The comunication speed between PC and NAS (via wifi) was about 50 MB/s.
Now I have reistalled the OS, did a factory reset and even tested the HDs on a PC to make sure they were fine.
I have now a Raid 1 configuration but I am soffering an issue with speed.
It seems that the LAN connections of the NAS have a problem. I am getting poor performance via 1 Gbps LAN.
On Direct to PC connection via LAN, I get 15 MB/s that immediately drop to zero.
I have tryed both with Jumpo on and off (both on PC and NAS) and the situation doesn't change.
The Cable is CAT 7.
Ethernet are: Intel(R) 82579V Gigabit Network Connection and Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller,
Please help!

- alphapapaAspirantAfter changing parameters (jumbo off) now I have 80 MB/S for few seconds then drop to zero.
The Static IP config is:
NAS
IP 192.168.168.1
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway none
PC
IP 192.168.168.60
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.168.1
Wifi is on:
IP 192.168.1.50
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.168.1.1
Is that correct? - vandermerweMasterNot exactly.
If your wifi router is 192.168.1.50, then your other LAN devices would normally have IP addresses in the format 192.168.1.x. Your gateway is not the wifi router, or is it?
Perhaps if the gateway is really 192.168.168.1, then setup your whole LAN like that, with IP address as 192.168.168.x.
Having said that, you have setup a direct PC to nas connection so this would appear to rule out the IP addresses or wifi being the problem.
How did you test the drives?
What firmware is on the nas? - alphapapaAspirantThanks for the reply!
I did the test with just a drag and drop file from one folder to the other as I am used to do.
The MB/S figures are the one that Windows display while copying.
I use Win 8.1 by the way.
The firmware is the latest 4.2.27.
Sorry for that unnecesary confusing line about wifi is on...
I have intetionally used other numbers than the one that my normal network has to avoid conflictions.
In normal configuration, my Wifi router has 192.168.1.1 with DHCT disabled and all other components have static IP.
The PC is 192.168.1.50 while the NAS, when normaly connected to the router via Giga LAN, is 192.168.1.100.
Here I have connected the NAS directly to the PC but I have also isolated the PC from the Wifi disabling the wifi card.
So I gave them 192.168.168.1 to the NAS and 192.168.168.60 to the PC.
I am not sure what number should I put as Gateway on the PC (since is mandatory) since no other hardware then the NAS is connected.
I hope I was more cleare this time.
Thanks again for your help... do yo know what else should I try to do to fix the problem? - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserYou can use 192.168.168.1 for the gateway on the PC as well.
- alphapapaAspirantThanks StephenB!
So this is what I did today:
I have used two different LAN Cat 7 cables to make sure those were not the problem.
I have disable all other comunication cards on the PC (wifi/Bluetooth/ unused LAN).
Jumbo disable.
MTU onthe NAS set on 1500 then to 1472 with no changes in performances.
First attempt.
I have connectet NAS LAN Port 1 with Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller of the PC.
Configuration:
NAS
IP 192.168.168.1
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.168.2 (the PC address)
PC
IP 192.168.168.2
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.168.1 (The NAS address)
Result:
Moving a 4 GB file with drag and drop: 90 MB/s for 3s", then drop to 0 MB/s, then raise to 20 MB/s for 2"s, then drop to zero...then stuck at 512 kb/s..
Second attempt:
I have connectet NAS LAN Port 2 with Intel(R) 82579V Gigabit Network Controller of the PC.
Configuration:
NAS
IP 192.168.168.100
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.168.50 (the PC address)
PC
IP 192.168.168.50
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.168.100 (The NAS address)
Result:
As before. Start at 83 MB/s, drop to 0 then raise and drop, with the highest peek at 2.78 Mb/s, lowest 0. Ii seems to be stuck most all the rime
Last attempt:
I have connectet a Surface Pro with a Giga LAN adapter to the NAS Port 2.
I gave the Surface the same configuration that the PC had.
Result:
Start at 83 MB/s then drop to 0...
So I am sure the problem is not the PC or the cable.
Please tell me if there is any other config attempt I should try.
I have already done 2 factory reset and I have overwrite the firmware once.
One sidebar question: as I have formatted and reinstalled everything in a Raid 1 configuration, now it showing me that 1% of the free space ( 47 GB) is already taken (not by me). Is that normal?
Thank you in advance! - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI think you should look at the ethernet stats on the NAS before and after one of these tests. If you download the logs, the stats are in network_settings.log
- alphapapaAspirantI can't attach files, right?

bond0:0: - alphapapaAspirantOne small thing that I guess is normal (or not?).
The Disk 2 is in 'resync' and after several hours is still 0%.
The HDs are emplty as right now. - vandermerweMasterYou said in your initial post that you tested the drives, how did you test them?
It is not normal, test the drives using vendor tools. - alphapapaAspirantThanks for the reply!
The Resynch now say 5% complete, remaining time 542 hr 54 min, speed 1415 KB/sec.
Is that normal? The disks are empty still.
I have used Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows (by WD) ona PC.
Nothing was found.
The status of the SMART is green, however I have sent the log to WD support just be sure, since one of the disk has the data below that look suspicious to me.
