ReadyNAS Ultra2+ and Windows 7 indexing
Hi.
I would like to have My "My Videos", "My Music" and "My Photos" folders located on my ReadyNAS Ultra2+. I would also like Windows 7 to be able to index them and for them to be viewable in the relevant 'Libraries'.
Currently, I have moved the "My..." folders to the NAS and have manually added them to their respective Libraries. Crucially, indexing is not available. I am not using the 'offline files' feature.
I have googled to see if this is possible, but thus far it seems not. What is current 'best practice' for this situation?
Thanks!

- rockfuzz2AspirantDoes anyone at netgear have a fix to get their NAS to index with windows 7 x64?
- amac27AspirantI'm also not able to make this work, it seems that the windows 7 is not working well with files that have opslock enabled.
my work around was using the microsoft synctoy 2.1

How does this help, please?amac27 wrote: my work around was using the microsoft synctoy 2.1

It seems to 'just' allow me to sync local files with NAS files... I'd like to have some files stored only on the NAS but indexable (and available as 'My Music' or whatever, preferably) by my local Windows 7 system.
Fingers crossed I've missed something with SyncToy (not the most reassuring name, huh!). - Dee_TeeAspirantHi,
I had the same problem and found a quick fix for media files: start windows media center and add the 'media directories' on the NAS to the media library of media center. This indexes your files on the NAs and you can now add to my pictures, music, video.
Still looking for a fix for my documents with :google:
happy new year :wavey:
ps don't use offline files; this will make a shadow copy on your home machine!!
