Is the PC set up to remember the password? It might be re-applying it.
Upon accessing /admin a sort of popup appears with something filled in, but I enter the user name and the new password manually. Anyway I modified my text to tell the new credentials don't work right away, but they do work later on - at least this is what I remember.

I don't know if the URL given did work originally and they made a change in some OS update or if the article has always been wrong.
