Reallocated sector count has increased with each startup

I understand your response, but as said, tried different setups with the different disks as per my previous post. Both disks suddenly fail simultaniously and in combination with the 'new' nas unit? My guess is that there is something wrong with the nas, not the disks. I'll see if I can get my hands on a couple of other disks to rule the disk failure out.
