recommendations for settings on 2120 as ISCSI backup device?
It's been a long time since I've posted here.
We've recently purchased a 2120 and I'm looking for recommendations for configs. We will be using this as a backup device via ISCSI and Backup Exec 2010 R3.
We already have an older 2100 set up in this fashion, and it works well, but the 2120 will be going to a remote site for the backups there and I would like to make sure I have an optimal config before sending it out. The data at the remote site will be a DR duplicate of what I have here, so should the ReadyNAS fail, it will be more of an inconvenience than a disaster.
OS 6.16 is new to me, can someone suggest best practices and or pitfalls to watch out for? I'd like to use all available space. There's a lot of stuff in the config that doesn't look familiar to me as it pertains to ReadyNAS such as thin/thick provisioning.
Thanks,
Brad

So if you max out your iSCSI usage, you fill up your file system, and God knows what will happen. Also, some backup software produce lots of small-block I/O to a large file, which is unsuitable for iSCSI on OS6 (you might get better performance over CIFS). There are some threads on the subject, but at the end of the day, you will have to test this yourself locally (and I am extremely interested in your results as I have similar usage scenarios, albeit with cheaper units).
Later edit: iSCSI containers can now not be used to fill the volume, there is a 90% limit enforced by NTGR. I'm a little unsure about how I feel about this. I have tried making a max size iSCSI container and then filling the rest up with junk files down until it can't take a 1k file, meaning completely packed, and this has worked fine... at least for now. Small-block I/O speed problems can be solved in the latest beta by disabling sync writes for the iSCSI LUN.
