Restoring deleted files on OS 6.6.1.
Hi, In one of our Parent Share Folders (PF) we experienced a loss of child/sub-folders (SF) due to a mistake we made where it appeared that a duplicate folder (DF) had been created during our cop...

I think it'd be safest to delete that PF and restore it again.

thank you stephenb. and by doing this would it clear the space currently occupied by these 'ghost folders' (roughly 6TB) so that we'd regain our 17TB ish of free space?

That is hard to say, since there aren't supposed to be any snapshots.
You try try running a balance after you delete the PF (and before you re-create it), and see if that reclaims the free space.

smb plus? no we hadn't but we have now. the balance which we've just initiated is running but looks like it might take a while.
a few questions for you;
1. regarding our issue of trying to restore deleted data, if we had the snapshot activated on the share, would the snapshot have recovered ALL (6TB worth) of data? if so does that mean the snapshots are compressed in order to minimize the amount of space they use or can they only facilitate a partial recovery?
2. is the anti-virus effective / worth using, can it be switched off from on and what kind of impact does it have on performance?
3. is there anyway of renaming the admin account? we have a secondary user with admin credentials but there doesn't appear to be a way of changing the default name 'admin'

FWIW, I don't work for Netgear

Try reading this post first, it might help explain them. https://community.netgear.com/t5/ReadyNAS-in-Business/ReadyNAS-312-Need-Help-Understanding-Snapshots/m-p/936586/highlight/true#M3041

Netgear switched AV packages a couple months ago, they are using ClamAV now. There were some AV issues in 6.6.1, I'd turn it off until you migrate to 6.7.
It can be switched on/off from the system->settings page in the web ui. There are no other controls at present (no ability to configure what happens when a virus is detected, etc).

Unfortunately not.

Balances can take quite a while (like defrags, it depends on the state of the file system when you start).
I was thinking that the goodsync issue might be related to SMB negotation, and that there might be some settings in SMB plus that could help - for instance setting the SMB version to 2.0.
