RN102 don't shutdown properly since 6.4.0 upgrade
Hello,
Since I've upgrade my Readynas 102 to the new firmware (with no problem), I'm experiencing strange behaviours during shutdown.
This appear if I stop it with the power button or form the web interface.
During shutdown the power button blink, I hear the disks stopping but it stays powered with the power button blinking.
All seems really off, I can't ping it, and the only way to turn it off is to remove the power jack.
This not happens every times but 9 /10.
I'm not sure if this is relate but it seems that everything goes well if I didn't acess the RN via DLNA.
Do you have an idea, I don't see anything in the logs.
Regards
Hello,
Without any clue to solve my problem I finaly manage to do a factory reset from the boot menu.
I follow the informations from http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/22892 and everything seems fine.
I will think twice before applying the next firmware upgrade, it's a lot of work to get the device working normally :-(

I've got the exact same issue since 6.4 upgrade.

I've also got this issue.
I have my RN102 set to automatically startup for an hour every morning to backup my RN104. I get an email notification saying it is shutting down, the device seems to be powered down, I can't access the shares, or ping it either, but the lights are on, and the power led is flashing. The only way to shut it down is to pull the power, which am reluctant to do.

same to me.
The RN 102 does not shutdown properly. Neither with pressing the button on the case nor with the timetable shutdown configured in the NAS Software

Same issue with the RN314 and firmware 6.4.0, wont shutdown, wont reboot, cant access shares, etc. I am wondering if the firmware update or a change it made did not complete fully as my NAS is set to shutdown overnight.
- rubertjackAspirant
My finding is that I used a blank disk and did a factory reset and the shutdown is normal. But when I change the hard disk to the one which I was using it in nas doesn't turnoff.
Not sure how to remove cache without losing data.
- Netrage2Aspirant
It looks like the firmware update wasnt coded to allow for a planned shutdown whilst the drive data was still being checked after the initial boot post firmware change.
- pit_vrAspirant
why do you think it is the cache, which prevents the NAS from shutting down properly ?
- rubertjackAspirant
As mentioned earlier, with a blank harddisk and a factory reset, worked very well with the exact same configuration and applications (without the used one connected).
Then i removed it and connected my old one the issue was still there. I'm not a tech savvy, but i assume.
BTW, issue is unresolved as i type. changing MTU back to 1500 didnt solve it. Never enabled disk spin-down.

Hello JennC,
I can't access anything, the device looks like it was shutdown but it's still power on. (no ping, no webadmin page, no shares, no DLNA,...)
I just made some tests transfering some files via nfs and after the poweroff was ok.
I will make some tests later but the not clean poweroff seems to appear only if I have accessed my music files via DLNA during the session.

Hello.
I also did a factory reset and it didn't work for me, however I did change my MTU to 9000. I have just reverted the MTU to 1500 and I now appear to be able to shutdown without issue. After doing your factory reset did you alter you MTU value?
Thanks.

Hello Crapsnot,
No I didn't touch the MTU and left it at 1500.
I just give a try and set MTU to 9000 : I got no problem to shutdown.
I remember a thing, when I was with the 6.2.5 firmware I got problems with the integrated DLNA server.
Following some advices, I installed manually a newer version of the minidlna server.
Perhaps my problems came with this manual installations...

hello,
i'm not interessed in doing a factory reset ! I don't want to backup all datas in my nas ...

I guess you can simply live with the problem until you get a fix.
Does 6.4.1 beta help?
- pit_vrAspirant
yes, of course it is no serious problem. Despite this "little" bug cost me several hours of troubleshooting (disk failure? wrong configuration? etc.)
And my RN102 was configured to shut down at night for various reasons (e.g. blackouts in our area are quite often), so I have to change this to 24/7 and wait.
BTW I dont think it is a good idea to use a beta, because there is no hint in the changelog, that it will fix our problem? But maybe I have overseen this.

Hi,
I solved the issue by desactivating the spin down. My RN102 shutdown proprely since 3 days

do you shutdown via power timer or by pressing the button?
- bhaalAspirant
via power time
- pit_vrAspirant
I'll try it - if it helps, that would be perfect, because I do not need the disk-spin-down feature.
Thanks bhaal!

it's works fine with an android app too ;)
