Since I have backups for all my data, I've never had to resort to data recovery; so I'm not really familiar with the available tools and what situations Netgear paid support will and will not attempt. Hopefully, someone who has successfully gone through a recovery scenario will address this facet.
If you have no backup at all, I recommend you use any recovery media you use for this as the basis for establishing a backup plan. My less critical data is still at risk because I only have local backup for it. My critical data is backed up at my brother's house -- 700 miles and 3000 feet in elevation above me here in coastal Florida. But I had one NAS packed in my vehicle just in case I had to evacuate from Irma.

lets say i have no backup....
i am trying to make scenarios of the 3 disks needed (out of 4) so that the array is ok but no result until now.
before i assume that the array is dead i have to point out that the moment that the new disk went from resyncing to online the other disk failed which cannot be a coincidence.. that is why i am saying that the controller has the problem and not the disks..

I suppose it is possible that the NAS has mis-interpreted that the additional drive failed. I suspect it is more likely that it failed earlier than the NAS realized and/or could inform you, so it just looks simultaneous. Sync takes a lot of the throughput on an ARM based system and could have delayed other proceses. One of the Netgear moderators may be able to get more information from your logs. Can you still download them?
At this point, I'm not sure if a reboot would help or hurt, so I recommend you wait for a response from one of the Netgear moderators before you try it.

i was in the state of "degraded data" and no files were accesible. i rebooted and now i am in the state of having 4 disks that are not recognised as a working array (attachment).
any moderator??

If you believe the NAS hardware has failed, then the next step would be to check the warranty status. If you are still covered by the warranty (3 years for the original purchaser), you'd request an RMA replacement via my.netgear.com.
It would be best if you could confirm disk health first - if you have a windows PC, you'd connect each disk to the PC and run the vendor diags (seatools for seagate, lifeguard for western digital). Based on what you've posted here, I'd say it's more likely that you did have two disk failures - it's not as uncommon as you might think.
Netgear moderators sometimes offer to look remotely, though the main channel for that is paid netgear support (also my.netgear.com).

Thank you for your reply!
I tried to buy a contract for tel. support since there is not an option through email and my call was dropped 2 times.. but they wanted me to pay with my credit card over the phone...
So:
I am pretty sure that the NAS hasn't failed but one of the 2 scenarios happened.
1. while resyncing with the new drive in tray 1, the 3rd disk failed and there is no hope because in total the active disks on the array is less than three..
2.after resyncing the 1st tray and getting the disk from resync status to online status, the 3rd drive failed. Which is the good scenario because we have 3 healthy disks. I just need to find the way to force the NAS unite them into an array
