RN104 Stuck In Boot Menu Mode/Normal after firmware upgrade 6.6.1
Hi All, I have updated my firmware via the web interface as it said a new version was available to install this week. This went without a hitch the updated started, downloaded and installed on to...

I have made contact with Netgear Support on the business phone No if anyone calls about ReadyNas in the UK. You will actually speak to support in the US. They are very friendly and helpful so no great shakes, it's just a shame the ReadyNas which has been working fine failed after a Firmware Update, though it is unclear if this actually caused the failure and maybe a coincidence where somthing else failed in the NAS during the the firmware update and re-boot process. This does make you bit weary in the future updating firmware, so I may now leave updates a while before just pressing the update firmware button :-)
They have RMA'd my product and are sending a replacement ReadyNas Chassis.

Thank you to all the people in this tread for trying to help resolve my problem.
I have raised a case number but isn't clear if I contact the Business or Home phone number for NAS support? I am a home user any ideas? I am in the UK.
Best Regards Fireman69

I believe there is a support centre in Ireland so I don't think you will always be routed to the US.
Let us know if the RMA fully solves the problem :smileyhappy:

Hi,
I have now received a warranty replacement NAS104 from Netgear, a couple of questions I am sure have been asked before :smileywink:
1) Whats the process for installing my existing HDD's into the new unit? just slot them in the correct order and then power on and see what happens?
2) The firmware version on the label on the rear of the NAS is FW V6.1.8, should I update this? (a bit wary after my last episode!)
Regards, Fireman69

Yes (noting the caveat below).

With newer OS-6 the NAS is designed to update the flash from the hard drives if the firmware on the hard drives is newer. I don't recall off-hand when that feature was added, and it's possible that 6.1.8 predates it.
So if you have a scratch disk, I suggest installing that first, and upgrade the firmware before you migrate the real disks.

Thanks for coming back to me,
Ok installed a 2TBWD HDD and went through the setup process and updated firmware to 6.6.1, no smoke appearing yet :smileywink:
Will now install the orignal HDD's in the correct positions and power back up, :smileywink:

Have installed the HDD's and after what seems ages it came back to life, anyone doing this be patient and let the NAS do its thing.
All back up and running now on 6.6.1
Thanks for your help and the support from Netgear Support to resolve and supply a complete (what appears to a new unit) one happy Netgear Customer:smileyvery-happy:
