RN104 stuck on Boot Menu Mode - Normal after firmware upgrade

Hi all,

I have updated my firmware via the web interface because Netgear said the new version 6.9.1 was available to install. Now I can't access the NAS and it's not vissible with RAIDar.

Looking at the NAS:

- Power Light = Blinking

- Disk Lights = Off

- Act = On

- Display = Boot Menu

- Pressing Backup Button = displays Boot Menu - Normal

- Pressing Backup Button again doesn't do anything once Normal appears.

I searched the Netgear support pages and the forum, and already tried:

1) OS reinstall

Followed steps:

https://kb.netgear.com/22891/How-do-I-access-the-boot-menu-on-my-ReadyNAS-104-204-214-or-314

Result:

Display shows "Boot Menu". When the reset button is released and the Backup Button is pressed only "Normal" is shown.

2) USB recovery

Followed steps:

https://kb.netgear.com/29952/How-do-I-use-the-USB-Recovery-Tool-on-my-ReadyNAS-OS-6-storage-system

Result:

When holding the Backup Button and the NAS is powered on the display shows "USB Recovery mode" and within 5 seconds "Failed!". The disk Lights are on.

Any ideas how to resolve this?

Regards and thanks,

Raymond

  • Hi raygear,

Since the NAS is still not detected even without the disks, it is possible that the chassis already faulty. If you are the original purchaser of the NAS and if it is still under the hardware warranty, you may contact support. They can provide a replacement for your device.

    Hi raygear,

Can you try powering up the NAS without the disks and check if RAIDar will be able to detect the NAS?

Note: Please label the drives with their corresponding bay before you remove them to ensure that it still in the same order when you re-insert them.

      Hi John,

      Thank you for your reply!

I powered up the NAS without the labelled disks.

      - Power Light = Blinking

      - LAN Light = Blinking

      - Display = Boot Menu

      - Pressing Backup Button = displays Boot Menu - Normal

The NAS is not detected by RAIDar, also not when directly linked to the pc.

      Regards and thanks,
