RN314 backup to USB disk: can't access target
Hi there, I have a problem with very basic backup jobs. I put up some jobs and added a few of them to the backup-button. I connect a disk to one of the USB ports. The disk is recognized, and I ...

The firmware is 6.6.1.
In the end I change nothing on the backup job, just opening it, clicking through the tabs and closing it again is enough, to make it run afterwards...

Hello el_patron,
Which USB port were you using when you got the problem? Have you tried or are you getting the same problem when using other USB ports?

I'm using one of the USB3-ports on the backside, with an extension cable to bring a connector to the frontside. Hmmh... can test with and without the extension cable and also the other port on the backside... and come back again.

I tried some things, but the behavior is kind of erratic:
- backup jobs with the backup button worked today with and without the extension cable with a 2 TB, 2,5 inch USB-disk
- the backup job with the bigger disk (5TB, 3,5 inch) without extension cable manually started did not work. the english comment is: "Backup Status: Fail: destination cannot be accessed.", although you see the disk connected within the jobs table under source/destination.
- again opening the job, clicking through the tabs, changing nothing, saving it and start the job again made it work
- disonnecting the big disk, reconnecting it again and start the job manually and it was successfull, without clicking through the job settings.
I did not try the other USB3 port from the backside, as there is the power supply UPS connected.
By the way if you are searching suggestions to product management:
- I would appreciate an USB3 connector on the front side, not needing an extension cable to connect an USB disk, or twiddling in the dark behind the NAS
- Accidently during moving the NAS in the cabinet to access the hidden USB3-ports, I detracted the power connector, forcing a brute shut down. Maybe it would help to have a snap connector or one that is not so easily to remove? Much better of course is the USB3 connector on the front side.
