RND v1 backup with frontview not working
I have a ReadyNAS Duo v1 running RAIDiator 4.1.12.
I want to simply backup my NAS.
I hoped to program the frontview RAIDiator 4.1.12 but ran into problems.
When I go to add a new backup job, I do the following:
1. For the source I find my share listed and select it. Since it is listed, I assume that I do not need to enter a path. I cannot use the test connection button.
2. For the destination, I select the Share USB_HDD_1 since I have an external USB drive plugged into the front face. Again I cannot use the test connection button.
3. I deselect the backup schedule.
4. I Schedule full back up first time and send errors only to email. No other boxes checked below.
I get the following error: "Error in evaluating table display tb TypeError:Unable to get property 'firstChild' of undefined or null reference"
The next message says the job was saved but I cannot see it to edit it or use it.
I was reading an online manual which said the default function of the backup button was to backup the entire nas to the usb drive on the front face. when I push it something happens but i'm not sure what. No new data is copied onto the usb drive. the log shows that a backup was started and finished in less than one minute.
Can you help? I am not a tech whiz so please try to keep your comments simple for my primitive mind.
Thanks for any support you can offer.
Albert

- vandermerweMasterIf you go to Frontview click on backup then backup jobs the job you created should be there. If it is not you did not save it.
Did you click on Apply after you setup the job?
The backup button will (by default) backup the backup share to the USB drive attached next to the button. You can however program this button to perform any of the backup tasks you have setup. The backup button settings are also under backup in Frontview.
With regards this particular backup job, how did you initiate it if you deactivated the schedule and cannot see the job in the listing. Those would be the only ways that the job could start unless you had programmed the job into the backup button list.
How is your USB disk formatted?
I think if the job isn't there you should program it again, make sure you click apply at the bottom. When you see the job in the list, start it and see what happens. If it does not work, post all the settings of the job and any error messages you receive. - albertnasAspirantI did click on Apply when I tried to save a new backup job.
Here's what I selected for Add a New Backup Job:
For Step 1, Source, I selected my RND share that is listed on the drop down box. No other changes. Test connection box is greyed out.
For Step 2, Destination, I selected the share USB_HDD_1 from the drop down box. No other changes. Test connection box is greyed out.
For Step 3, Backup Schedule, I didn't change the defaults which are Perform backup every 24 hours between 00:05 and 23:05, M-F
For Step 4, Backup Options, I didn't change the defaults which are Schedule full back up first time and send errors only to email. No other changes or boxes checked.
When I hit Apply, I receive the following error: "Error in evaluating table display tb TypeError:Unable to get property 'firstChild' of undefined or null reference"
Then another warning that the Backup Job was Successfully Saved, but I cannot see it listed.
If I hit the refresh button, I receive the same error: "Error in evaluating table display tb TypeError:Unable to get property 'firstChild' of undefined or null reference"
I did try to push the backup button on the front face with my USB HDD plugged into the front face but the log shows something started and stopped within one minute. When I look at the HDD directories/files, I don't see anything that was copied. I have about 220 GB of data.
I don't know how my HDD is formatted. I use it to plug and play into my windows based laptop. - albertnasAspirantAlso, when I go to the Backup Button Setup and view the Default Backup Button Job Logs button after I have tried to push the backup button on the front face, this is the log message I receive:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
INCREMENTAL Backup started. Sat Mar 8 13:07:27 PST 2014

Destination: [USB_HDD_1]/

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserWhat browser are you using to create the backup job?
Maybe try deleting the current job, and recreating it with chrome. - albertnasAspirantAhhh. That was it. I logged in with Chrome and can now see my jobs.
The logs say my backup was successful.
When I unplug my HDD from the NAS and plug it into my laptop I cannot see the files. Where are they and how can I access them?
A sample line from the log is "`./temp/pics for jan 14 2013/DSC00769.JPG' -> `/USB_HDD_1/temp/pics for jan 14 2013/DSC00769.JPG'" - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserHow was the HDD formatted? Normally you'd want NTFS to read it from windows. It sounds like you might have formatted it as ext (which is used by linux, but not recognized by Windows).
Also be careful to dismount the drive from the NAS using the UI before you remove it. - albertnasAspirantI'm not sure how my HDD is formatted. I just plug and play in to my Windows 7 laptop. It can read all the files I copy into it.
What do you mean to dismount using UI?
Thanks - StephenBGuru - Experienced User
If you open "computer", and then single-click on the USB drive (so you don't navigate into the drive), you will see the format at the bottom of the windows. For instance, "File system: NTFS".albertnas wrote: I'm not sure how my HDD is formatted. I just plug and play in to my Windows 7 laptop. It can read all the files I copy into it.
You need to disconnect the USB drive via the Web UI before you physically pull the USB cable. See "manage a USB device" on page 24 of the manual here: http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/ ... 6Dec11.pdfalbertnas wrote: What do you mean to dismount using UI?
If you don't do this, you can corrupt the file system on the drive. - albertnasAspirantThe file system is NTFS.
The logs show the backups are being completed.
Still trying to find out how I can use/retrieve the files directly from the backup on my HDD.
Any thoughts?
