RNDU2000 - setup freeze with Seagate ST2000DM001

Hi,
I try to install two Seagate ST2000DM001 (2To) in my RNDU2000. (1cH164-301 / FW : CC24)
The disks are empty and in the compatibility list.
The NAS was working well with another small disk before.

When i do the reset factory.
The NAS is visible in raidar (test disk then ask for setup)
I choose the X-RAID2 during configuration
NAS starts to work
It disapears from raidar.

and then nothing more. After hours it does not come visible again in RAIDar.

I have tried again with only on disk. -> same issue.

Someone can help me ?
Thanks,
Kyo

  • I'll add my own situation as it overlaps. I added the same Seagate Drive to replace a failing drive on my ReadyNas NV+ (V1). The drive resynced only to fail the next day. From there, that threw my whole NAS into failure mode. The new Seagate drive works fine on my laptop and desktop...also works fine if I reboot the NAS with only that drive plugged in as the OS will re-install and everything is fine. What's up ReadyNAS team? I will post a separate post for my specific issue. Just wanted to add my 2 cents here as it's the same drive that started my own nightmare.

There's an interesting thread on these drives here: http://forums.seagate.com/t5/Barracuda- ... d-p/161924

ST2000DM001 models that look identical have different number of platters (2 or 3) , different number of heads (2,4,6), and have significantly different performance. The only way to tell what you have is to decode the serial number (even the full model name ST2000DM001-9YN164, etc. won't tell you). Perhaps this explains why they won't tell you the warranty without knowing the serial number. And I thought the v1/v2 confusion was bad!
  • Thanks for the link, but i think that my pb is not restricted to the new disks.
I have verified that he NAS do the same with the previous disk that worked well before.
I have a now ticket open with netgear support.

    wait and see...
  • I have found an explanation of why the ST2000DM001 drives come up as dead in the NV+. I recently bought one as a replacement and slotted it in. It synced and ran as it should for a day. Next day the NAS said it was dead. Took it out reformatted it on a PC with no issues. Tried it again in the NAS, it resynced nicely and was dead the next day. When looking through the logs i found that it died almost exactly the same time, 04.00. It seems that the NAS does some kind of integrity check in the middle of the night and that test kills the ST2000DM001. Not sure how I will proceed. Change drive or wait for a Radiator update?
