RNDU4000 - OS Reinstall, fix frontview and various other problems
model: RNDU4000, firmware 4.2.28
Hi All,
I recently had an:
"ERR: Could not find internal fla"
I fixed it with the "USB Restore flash" guide and it appeared to be working normally ...
...Aaaand then I began to do stupid stuff, apparently - ssh'd to the nas, and did:
apt-get update && apt-get upgrade -y
Then my problems began, frontview doesn't startup and fails when started manually, Transmission doesn't work -
/var/log/frontview/error.log states, that it cannot find various php modules - but I can't install the modules with apt-get ..
My question is:
Will the OS Reinstall boot option, fix the frontview, php problem, and maybe transmission, without removing the users and their permissions on the nas, and most importantly my data...
What info do you need to assist me fixing this problem ?
Thank you
Regards
Philip
Okay ... Tried what I beleive is everything, found the (afaik) original .deb files from "/var/cache/apt/archives/" and executed "apt-get -i *.deb" in that directory, manually "apt-get install"'ed the oldest versions, took a chance, rebooted the nas - and presto - now everything works ...
So ... note to self .. dont "apt-get upgrade" blindlessly :o)
If you for some reason deleted the files from "/var/cache/apt/archives/" then "Factory Default" might be the only solution ...

Hi keeprg8,
Normally an OS re-install re-installs the firmware from the system’s internal flash to its disks. The OS reinstall boot mode can be useful when the system crashes and corrupts some configuration files. OS reinstall boot mode also resets some settings on your system, such as Internet protocol settings and the administrator password, to defaults.
Do you still have access to the data via CIFS? Given the recent incidents, it might be a good idea if you actually back-up your data to a different location.
Lets wait for others in the community to give us some steps as well.

Yeah, I can access NFS/CIFS/FTP, no HTTP tho
I am hoping that OS Reinstall will restore the original software, and not wiping my data - I have at this time 8.4TB full - so, finding that much space is kinda difficult.
Thank you for your reply, will wait for more answers, I may not be the only one with a problem like that - StephenBGuru - Experienced User

It shouldn't remove users, change permissions, or delete data. But I agree with the advice to back up the NAS first.
It might not fix the problems (my guess is that it won't). You likely will need a factory reset (which deletes everything).

Thank you for your advice.
That's what I think too... what if ... what if I remove the drives, can I then restore factory settings, put the drives back in and presto problem solved ? - keeprg8AspirantDoh - just read FramerV's post again, realizing that, my question answered itself just then :-/
Any other ideas, that does not include factory reset :)
Regards - keeprg8AspirantDoes a series of commands from commandline exist that can backup the frontview settings?

Hi,
Thank you for your time, I will investigate further and post here if/when I find a solution
