RNR-12A (RN4220s) hardware problem
Hi,
I have RNR-12A (RN4220s) without power supplies. Unit from decomission.
So, I was trying to bring 2nd live to this unit, but I am not sure what is wrong with it.
All hardware is present ( except power supplies and hard disk frames). My first approache was to use power supply from PC (I have 1500W).
Mother board is trying to start, but after 3rd attempts nothing is really working, it is ON, but without contact (even raidar).
I was trying to add VGA card, to see what is going on, but there is no video
After that I have added RAM from 4220 to older 4200 to check it, RAM is fine.
I made a copy of OS6 from 4200 to IDE hard drive and CF with SATA interface, just to try boot in cause internal flash is corrupted. But without success.(linux DD)
Recovery USB boot is not booting.
How can I see output from this unit? There is nothing comming out from serial port.
movie with and without internal flash.

Hello Alein,
It is recommend to use a power supply that is designed for the specific model of ReadyNAS and discourage using hardwares that came from different device. Once the NAS manage to power on the Raidar should detect the NAS even without hard drives inserted to it. As for the VGA card the NAS will not generate any video. I would recommend purchasing the designed power supply for the unit and check if that will help address the concern and power on the NAS.

Hello Alein,
The troubleshooting and isolation steps you are doing is beyond the troubleshooting we do and recommend. If we find the device is faulty and it is under it's warranties we recommend to have it replace. We can wait for any recommendations from someone from community that may have encountered the same problem.

I am not familiar with who makes the 4220 motherboard (assuming, like the 4200, it's OEM from another company). You may have more luck going to a forum that supports that motherboard.
In both of your movies, there is no RAM installed. You aren't going to get very far that way.

It is risky buying a unit the way you have and there's no warranty for that. It's quite possible the reason it was decommissioned was because there's a hardware issue with the unit.

Hi,
point is to find a problem and fix it. Not to talk about what if.
I swap MOBO with 4200, and power supplies did not change anything.
So I have removed MOBO and I am trying to start it alone. But without success.
I am almost sure that MOBO is fine, and this is not a hardware problem (damage), but according to some infomration on forum, there was firmware 6.7 causing many NAS unresponsible.
There must be a way to get output from this MOBO, if connected VGA is not working, serial is not working(or there are custom settings), perhaps there are some pins with low level voltage(TTL 3V) as it is in different models.
