Rsync and deleted files

Hi

I have two Readynas Pro 600 and want to have identical data on each NAS, both for backup and some of our users are in a office across the street and are connected via a bridged wireless link.

I have tested Rsync but have found that with the default settings files that get deleted on one NAS1 do not get removed on the other NAS2, and vise versa. And if i delete the file off NAS2 before the sync from NAS1 the the file from NAS1 put the file back onto NAS2

This could be a nightmare of files.

What is the best way to do this? Right now we have Robocopy doing the sync from a server but this uses server resources and we should beable to do this from the NAS.

Any Ideas on the best way to do this?

Thanks

  • Sorry... do you mean ReadyNAS 600 or ReadyNAS Pro 6? I'm going to assume the latter, since you said "Pro".

When you set up an RSYNC target for backup, there is an option named "Remove deleted files on target." Check that. This will enable deleted files cleanup, just as if you'd used --delete in an rsync shell command.
