Run Outlook Express
Is it possible to run Outlook Express from a NAS NV+ to keep all email from the number of PCs which access the NAS (3 in my case) all in one place - in one program ?
This would I hope, be more convenient than having to open up separate versions of OE on every computer, and would allow access to all traffic flowing across the network.

- sphardy1ApprenticeNo. And your reasons for wanting to do this are not clear so maybe you can better explain the actual problem you are trying to overcome?
- Thanks for your interest.
I have 2 PCs connected by Ethernet and 1 laptop, connected by WiFi.
All are on a network and connected to the NAS
Each has its own OE program (same address of course, so any incoming emails
can be collected from any of them at any time)
The emails are stored in the appropriate file on each PC, but if I go to another PC I cannot see, nor answer, an emails received on any other PC.
It seems pointless having more than one OE program, all operating on my behalf, yet I am unable to see the sum total of all traffic over the 3 versions in one place !
I had hoped that if I could run just one OE program - from the network or the NAS - all the data would be gathered in one place, to be accessed or replied to from there.
I know that Microsoft's OE (like some of its users !) is getting long in the tooth, and I have been unable to find any help on it's website, but I thought that maybe some of the experienced users of this forum may have evolved a way of doing this.
Of course, there may be other EMail programs out there which may fit the bill, and I would be grateful for any information about them.
Kind Regards, - sphardy1ApprenticeYou should investigate if you email provider supports IMAP
There are 2 main protocols used for accessing emails - POP, where only a single client can connect at a given time and download a copy of the email and the mail is then typically deleted from the email server (making mails no longer available to other clients), and IMAP, where all information in maintained on the email server and can be simultaneously accessed by multiple clients which cache copies of emails locally.
You appear to be using the former whereas the latter is designed to solve exactly the issue you describe. If your provider does not support IMAP, then consider changing to one that does.

Note this has nothing to do with your ReadyNAS and that you will also have to reconfigure your email client to use IMAP - Thanks for your very informative and detailed explanation.
This is clearly the way to go, which I shall follow up in due course.
Kind regards,
