- iProb8GuideI just finished the firmware upgrade all my three drives (from CC1G to CC1H). All seemed to go just fine. The upgrade process itself took less than a minute each; disconnecting and connecting the drives from the PC and then rebooting the PC in between each upgrade took about twice as long. ;-)
When I get home this evening, I'll pull the drive that is failing and replace it with one of the new ones. Must I shut down the ReadyNAS before I do the swap? Or, can I hot swap them? I believe everything I've read indicates a hot swap is okay, but I want to be sure that a hot swap is 100% safe. - bollarAspirant

Actually, a hot swap is preferred. Pay careful attention to the LCD screen, emails, Frontview and RAIDar, so you know what to do next. - phrozenAspirant

No doubt that works fine, but one of the selling points of X-RAID is that you don't have to bring the NAS down to change drives, so you might as well enjoy it! - phrozenAspirant

Well, I worry about writes that are in progress at the time a drive gets pulled. Also, I haven't had good experiences with drives failing and the ReadyNAS handling it well. Every time a drive has failed so far, it has brought down the whole ReadyNAS.... - iProb8Guide

Thanks. I'll give it a go when I get home this evening! - bollarAspirantFYI, I received four of them from Amazon today (shipped from Mesquite, TX) and they all have 1H.

My three from Amazon were shipped from Phoenix (to Phoenix) had all had 1G. - xsnrgAspirant3rd Drive from Egg, and it is CC1J
- egoldyAspirantI purchased 4 1TB drives and am trying to hot swap them in.
Per the instructions, I've pushed the button after opening the door, but the "gate doesn't swing open"
Can someone me how hard to push that button to make the gate "pop open" so I can remove one of the drives to remove it?
I've tried it on all the drives and they all don't "pop"
I don't understand why..
