Setup for 314 with WD Red 6 tb
I'm considering picking up the 314 4 bay with 4x 6tb WD red drives. Couple of questions please: 1) for XRaid2, will I have 18 gigs avail. as 1 volume? 2) If I go for the 516, Can I initially build...

Put in 1 drive, boot and update the firmware.
Power down, insert all the other drives then factory default the unit.
Login to the GUI and disable Xraid ( you do not need to wit for the resync to finish) then destroy the volume. Create a new volume in flexraid , setting it up using all 4 disks and setting raid 6. After it starts to build, change to Xraid again - again you do not need to wait for the resync to finish).
It will probably ask if you want to destroy the volume, say yes. It should then change to Xraid , but with dual redundancy (raid 6) and start the build again.
This method is quickest, but will lead to the default shares being deleted. This may not be a problem for you though.
