Slow SMB access on 314 readynas

after firmware upgrade to 6.5.2 my readynas 314 has become slow to response when browsing its network shares.

At times becoming non-accessible.

all workstations are windows 10

the nas is on a local domain.

domain authentication on NAS device imports fine and all seams good.

network isnt too busy and another readynas, 102, has no problems on same lan.

This slow in response can happen at any time of the day even when no activity on the LAN.

i checked i can access the http interface when running slow and all seams fine from that end.

I checked the processes and network usage, not under any heavy use more than before.

I can ping the interface with no delays.

I have no other services running only SMP and RSYNC for backups later on.

Snap shots are set to smart mode.

pointers on how to resolve appreciated.

model 314

firmware 6.5.2

  • After checking the logs as recommended and finding the above problems, I went on to the domain server and found a MEMORY issues that was slowing the server down under heavy use.

Server fixed and  network access to RN back and working.

    thanks everyone for the pointers.

    Now for the next problem......

What firmware did you upgrade from?

I'd download logs, and check the disk health.  Network stats (overruns, packet loss, etc) are another thing to check.

Perhaps also try rebooting the NAS.

Which firmware is your RN102 that is working fine on?

        You would look at e.g.

        1. disk health in smart_history.log
        2. how full the volume is in e.g. volume.log and btrfs.log
        3. high metadata numbers in btrfs.log relative to data usage
        4. The number of snapshots on the system (can see in btrfs.log and snapper.log)

If you like you could send your logs in (see the Sending Logs link in my sig) and I could take a look.
