Slow to show on PS3
I have my REadyNas Duo hooked up on the PS3 to stream movies. However, it takes forever to show up, if at all. Each time I turn on the PS3 I have to "scan for media devices" is that normal? Additionally, why does it take so long after it's said that two devices are found to show them? (one of which I know is the Nas)....
Also- Once it finally shows I can only get it to show me five of the 30 movies that I currently have on there. What's the deal? What am I doing wrong? Is there a tutorial (In plain english, I'm a newb) that I can find to follow?
It's all wirelessly connected.

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWhat version of RAIDiator? Are you using the latest ReadyDLNA update for your Duo (Sparc ReadyNAS)? See http://readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=76&t=27946
- caloAspirantI have almost the same problem. It takes approx 5 mins before it shows up after I start my PS3 however it does show all content. The only way to force it to show up is by switching share under ReadyDLNA from default media to Videos and back. But this starts the rescan of my media files and this takes forever.
Mine is also wireless connected. - knorrhaneAspirantIf you're wireless is slow that might be the problem.. However I experience that sometimes with my ReadyNAS Duo even though both are on gigabit ethernet.. You could try rebooting the ReadyNAS and perform a volume scan, it seemed to work for me a couple of times..
- USMarineAspirantWireless could be the problem. I use a wired connection and I also had the same problem at first. The biggest thing that made a difference for me was that I had a switch/hub connected to my router. I unplugged the cables from the PS3 and NAS and instead of them being fed through the switch I connected both of them directly to the router and it fixed the problem. Another thing I have noticed is that if you disable the Disk Spin-down Option it will help a little (in my case a second) it is not much difference for me but it may be a huge factor when using wireless. If you can get a direct wired connection that would be your best bet.
- fergusmacdonal1AspirantI'm also having this problem - the PS3 takes 5-10 minutes to see the ReadyNAS after the PS3 is turned on (ReadyNAS was running when PS3 was turned on).
The PS3 sees other media servers instantly no problem (such as other computers connected via WiFi on the home network), but the NAS always takes 5-10 minutes.
Initiating a rescan of the ReadyNAS makes it see it almost instantly.
Any ideas what might be causing this? Any help much appreciated.
FYI I have an RND2000 ReadyNAS Duo running RAIDiator 4.1.7 and ReadyDNLA v1.0.21. The home network is run through a BT Homehub 3.0 with no switches, ie the ReadyNAS and PS3 are both connected directly to the router via Cat 5 cable. Computers are connected via wireless. - dudeegAspirantI have Ultra2, PS3 and wired network. Never had this issue, the NAS is there until I get to the Videos menu on XMB. But I've never tried with WiFi.
- fergusmacdonal1AspirantHi - thanks for your input. Can you confirm that as soon as you turn on your PS3, the NAS is there? It sees my laptop like that.
Wondering if this is an issue with the RND2000 then? - dudeegAspirantHi!
I will check this for you today evening, and let you know. - dudeegAspirantHi again!
I've just checked it. The ReadyNAS Mediaserver is immediately appearing after switching on the PS3 (again, I am using LAN). - fergusmacdonal1AspirantHey,
Thanks for checking that - much appreciated. Wishing I bought your model now.
Does anyone have experience of the RND2000 and what may be causing the delay in the PS3 picking it up? Perhaps I could contact Netgear directly...
