Since you are particularly concerned about data loss, you should not use RAID-0 to span multiple disks into one volume. (fastfwd basically said that, I am just underscoring that point).
4TB drives are more cost-effective for new installations. Also leaving a slot empty makes expanding the array more cost-effective later on - especially with RAID-6, where you need to upgrade 4 drives with the larger sizes to get any space increase at all. Much better to pop in a new drive in the empty slot...
