Sudden plague of .AppleDouble files !
I have now a plague of .AppleDouble files all over my NAS shares !
Apparently these are caused by NAS software writing these after the NAS share has been accessed by OSX.
True ?
It seems these are normally hidden but I'm also processing these shares with Win7 so my file count has now doubled !
I upgraded to 4.2.23 recently. Would this have changed the situation ? Were they hidden before ? Can I hide them now ?
I'm using ML on 10.8.4. Might this also have caused these ?
Anything else I can do to send them back to the realm of "hidden system files" again ?
There are also some .db files that have appeared that can't be deleted - these must be an OSX database file that OSX uses. These weren't there before either.
Cheers.

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIn Windows you should be able to disable the viewing of such files, I think.
The files were created by your Mac. This is not something new to Mountain Lion.

I looked at the link you provided but there was no permanent method listed. .DS files I can get rid of but .Appledouble seem to be repetitive.
Trouble is I'm using a WIn7 mirror programme on the NAS shares so it doesn't like keeping track of this Apple dust between the mirrors. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredI don't know why you are suddenly seeing them if you didn't see them before. Have you been tweaking settings in Windows recently?
- victorhortaliveAspirantDon't think so. The WIn7 is on a PC that's only used for a few specific tasks : Mirroring, DVD input, Managing iTunes.
Where on Win7 should I look to change any settings ? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredLooking at the NetAFP website it is related to Netatalk. An update to Netatalk 3.0.x would improve things somewhat as it uses a new backend for appledouble. However, I don't expect Netatalk 3.0.x to come to RAIDiator 4.2.x
Netatalk 3.0.x is in ReadyNAS OS 6
I think if you looks at folder options there is an option to hide certain types of files. I'm not sure if Windows hides these files. - victorhortaliveAspirantOK. I've narrowed it down a bit.
In WIn7 I can't see this apple dust.
However, in the Win7 mirror programme I can see these. Changing the view filters to exclude hidden or system files doesn't change this.
Why might this programme suddenly see these files ? MIght the change to Raidiator 4.2.23 have done this ? Would going back to 4.2.22 fix it ?
I'll post questions on the WIn7 S/W forum - it's ViceVersa. - ihartleyTutorCan you hide them via smbd.conf??
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredLooks like there at least used to be a vfs_netatalk module. Though I guess that might possibly have undesirable effects if you want your Mac to continue to connect to the ReadyNAS.

Thanks, but how do I do that ?
Here's an interesting titbit.
If I access the NAS share in Parallels when running ViceVersa then I have 2 options.
1. Select Network (Windows selection) and find the NAS share - I do see the Apple dust files
2. Select the NAS share already mounted in OSX - visible in Windows under <Computer> - then I don't see the Apple dust files - victorhortaliveAspirantManaged to remove the problem but not solve it by applying filters to the Win7 mirror s/w to exclude files and folders named .* .
However I guess all my NAS shares are now littered with .* stuff, but I suppose they are benign.
Cheers.
