Sync 2 NAS over the internet
Hi Everyone,
I have the following question:
My friend and I have the same NetGear NAS. We want sync both NAS for specific folders(visa versa) over the internet.
Can someone tell me how we can do that in a fast and simple way?
Regards

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWhat model ReadyNAS?
- traxinvAspirantBtsync - BitTorrent sync works like a charm! Depending on the NAS you should be able to get an add-on somewhere.
- gervanlAspirantHe guys the model of the NAS is RDN4000-100.
So now is the question how to solve my need?
Please in detail if possible
Kind regards - gervanlAspirantHi people I will make it a bit clearer.
What we want to do is the following:
If i have a file(s) on nas 1 these have to be copied automatically to Nas2 and visa versa.
Most of the files will be more or like music oriented.

Gerhard - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYou could use Rsync. This guide explains a lot about Rsync (though Frontview has improved to be easier to configure since then):http://www.readynas.com/download/documentation/support/rsync_howto_nastonas.pdf

This will work better if you use two shares (separating NAS-1 and NAS-2). For instance use a from_nas1 destination share on NAS2, and a from_nas2 destination share on NAS1. The ReadyNAS doesn't do two-way sync.
You can use rsync or ftp. rsync is the better choice. The transfers will not be encrypted/secure though. - gervanlAspirantHi thanks,
But as far as I know rsync is a one-way sync. Do you have a Idea how to do this automatically(no manual).
What I was thinking is that I (Nas 1) make a map for copy. Then my friend do the same. So what needs to happen is that that map be monitored for changes and if so copy to the other Nas and visa versa. This has to go via the internet. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI don't know of a ReadyNAS tool that does 2-way sync. It's not quite as straightforward as you might be thinking, since you and your friend might both decide to change the same file in different ways.
Also, you can't easily propagate deletions. If you delete a file, it would simply be restored from your friend's copy. - gervanlAspirantHi,
Say if we would adjust a file, one could do that in a specific folder and than copy it to the folder which needs to be synct.
If for what kind of reason we would delete a file on on side we have to think of a method how to come about recopying.
Ideas? - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserHow fast a resync are you needing to have? Would be be ok to copy from NAS A to NAS B on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Nas B to NAS A on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday?
