The resync operation finished on volume data. However, the volume is still degraded.

Hello,

I have 3 Seagate drives in 1. 3TB 2. 6TB 3. 6TB

I then tried to put in a new Seagate 6TB drive in bay 4

So it started resyncing for a few days then error message

mv_xor_status +88

Disk: Disk Model:ST6000VN0001-1SF17Z Serial:S4D0XPYP was removed from Channel 4 of the head unit.
Volume: Resyncing started for Volume data.
Volume: The resync operation finished on volume data. However, the volume is still degraded.

So now data degraded, so went to forums and installed firmware that fixes

mv_xor_status +88

System: Firmware was upgraded to 6.5.2-T486.

I would like to add the 4th HDD in, but am cautious on the message of data degraded.

Should I re-insert HDD in bay 4 or not?

And how does the status of data degraded change to normal?

Thank you

Alex

  • If you insert a 4th drive, X-RAID will modify your 3 drives RAID5 into a 4 drives RAID5. Until the resync is complete, the RAID5 volume will be shown as degraded... If you remove one drive, the RAID5 volume will be shown as degraded... The expansion started, you need to leave the disk 4 in the chassis. Be careful, "playing" with drives during an expansion often result in complete data loss!

I agree you need to be careful.  If you don't have a backup, it would be wise to make one.

The mv_xor_status +88 error came from the RAID engine of your NAS.  I'm not convinced that the NAS will decide to complete the resync properly on its own.  Try sending a PM to kohdee and getting advice from him on recovery.

      Completed backups.

Restarted device and inserted the 4th HDD 6TB in bay 4 and now syncing, 164 hours to go.

      Data still degraded.
