Time Machine using OSX Mavericks
Update: Please check you are running new enough firmware first: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=409701#p409701
Hello there,
I have a Macbook Air running OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion) backing with Time Machine to my Readynas Ultra (x86). Everything works, no issues. I also have a development laptop running the latest developer build of Mavericks (dp8) and on this machine, I can't get Time Machine to work. The laptop sees the Time Machine shares over AFP and I can browse the entire contents of the Readynas through Finder. When I open the Time Machine application and hit "select disk," it recognizes the ReadyNas Time Machine share and offers it as a backup option. But when I click the share, it says "connecting" and then I get the following error message: "There was a problem connecting to the server 'XYZ.' The server may not exist or is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."
Any thoughts?
Does anyone out there have a Mavericks machine backing up through Time Machine to an x86 ReadyNas?

Given the issue Jon (kwtsh) had, has the testing of 4.1.13 etc included the use case of someone with prior TM backups (made under older MacOSX and older Raidiator) migrating to Mavericks and Raidiator 4.1.13? I would assume so. I'm in the same boat as Jon, and given that he had to downgrade his OS (which I'm unprepared to do), I'm hesitant to use RC 4.1.13. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredI think evan indicated that the final version is a newer build than the RC.
I assume that such testing would have taken place too. - kwtshAspirantWell a large TM backup failed overnight back on 10.8.5 running Radiator 4.1.13 RC1, so I ended up downgrading the firmware back to 4.1.12 again.
Currently about half way through a big backup, so looking good again.
I see there were some changes to the AFP address that TM uses for the ReadyNAS between 10.9 and 10.8.5... - SkywalkerNETGEAR ExpertThe only change should have been a Bonjour change. OSX 10.9 for some reason change the requirements, and now the normal AFP (_afpovertcp) name must exactly match the Time Machine (_adisk) name. So we just added an extra discovery entry to make that happen. In limited testing here, it worked fine after this change. But the change did not touch the actual AFP operation in any way.

I also assume testing would include doing large (full system) backups to TM too, as Jon (kwtsh) is having those fail, even on older MacOSX (10.8.5) with 4.1.13RC.
Shouldn't this 'final' build be released as a new RC before it's released, so we can all test it, or is 'final' the designation you give to the last RC release *before* it's GA? Is there a build number we can go by, to avoid confusion on this?
By the way, also want to thank you guys for still supporting the NV+ (Sparc). - SkywalkerNETGEAR ExpertThere is no official 'final' version yet. We need to do some more testing, since you guys are seeing an issue that we haven't seen thus far. So there have been no changes in this regard between the RC1 posted on the forum and today, since we haven't been able to debug it yet.
- flamesong1AspirantI would also like to express my enormous gratitude for the ongoing support for the ReadyNAS Duo v1.
When I saw the word 'legacy' appended to the ReadyNAS Duo v1 somewhere on this forum, I felt that I had been orphaned, in a technical sense. And then when I tried Time Machine on a partition test install of Mavericks and discovered the problem connecting, I assumed that I had reached the end of the road, in terms of OS upgrades until I invested in new hardware; which is extremely unlikely for the foreseeable future.
So, many, many thanks. - danpalmerAspirantI'm new to this forum, so sorry if I'm asking a question with an obvious answer, but where is the beta for the ReadyNAS NV+ v2? I'm having exactly the same issue on Mavericks with mine and there doesn't appear to be a software update or workaround yet.
