Trouble finding USB-drive with Os6
Hi!
I have an ultra 4 with os6 installed.
When I add an external hard drive (USB 2.0 and ntfs file system) it does not find it.
Is this a problem with legacy hardware and os6?
The disk works perfect to my windows 7 computer.
Thanks!
Ps. I did not try it with os4 I'm afraid...

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWhat version of OS6 are you running?
- XophileAspirant6.1.8
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredCan you try 6.1.9?
- CharlesRGuideI had a Ultra 4 (6.2 Beta) that I connected a 2TB USB drive to and it was ignored. Didn't show up. I didn't try anything other than plugging it in while the NAS was up. It had a USB 3.0 interface (HGST Touro). I ended up transferring the data over the network so I didn't try rebooting with it attached or any other options. I no longer have it so I can't do any further testing. It was new and I never tried attaching anything to it with 4.x... actually it only ran for a couple of minutes.
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIf you only tried adding it while the NAS is on, do also try booting the NAS with the disk connected.
- LitozAspirantHello, I'm currently having a similiar issue with the USB 3.0 front port. I'm using an Ultra 2 and OS 6.1.9, is this a known issue for the upgrade? I'm sure the physical connection worked on 4.X. When I move the hardware to the back connections (2.0)it works with no problem.
Is there any ssh command that can help me know if the port is up and known by the NAS OS?
PS: I know it got power because I hear my HDD spin up, but with a flash drive the write/read led showed no activity. Web UI didn't showed any of those drives - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIf you download the logs, what is the date in bios_ver.log ?
- LitozAspirantSorry about this, it is now working. I did the update to OS 6.2, get the firmware from the website and uploaded through web UI. For the sake of completeness this is the date from the bios_ver.log
bios_date=11/02/2011
bios_vendor=American Megatrends Inc.
bios_version=080016 - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredGlad it is now working. You already have the latest BIOS for your NAS.
- dhonzikAspirantI think I have the same problem with 6.2 on my ultra 4 plus with the usb ports on the device. Mdgm confirmed it with my system logs that proved that the nas drive was having problems detecting the connected UPS. The front usb port works for maybe a couple of hours then stops during the transfer of data from my external drive. I thinking there is a problem with the USB support in 6.2. Can this be looked into
