Updating this old thread with my two cents worth of knowledge.. I'm an Ultra2+ owner and have seen this same issue with usb 2.0 disk on the front port on .20 firmware. Its a rocketfish enclosure, not sure what chipset. Based on what I read here I'll try a dc adapter on the drive and see if it resolves it.
