On the NAS, there is a network statistics pop-up that you can see (the control is next to the NIC speed on network interfaces).

Have not checked the network stats on the nas - its a 1GB netgear switch (the blue business ones)
no erros present when i check the nas - do i need a plugin to check further in depth?
If you have a managed switch, it has its own web page interface and more stats - which is why I asked the model number.
Another thing to try is a direct connect of the NAS to your PC (with jumbo frames off) - and see what speed you get that way. that requires a bit of set up. There is a brief description here: http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how ... _pc_or_mac The main thing is that you need to temporarily change the IP address and subnet mask of the PC - for instance, 192.168.168.170 for the IP, and 255.255.255.0 for the subnet mask. Then put it back (probably to dhcp) when you are done.
