Ultra 6 + SLOW after replacement of 2TB HD's by 3TB HD's
I have a ReadyNas Ultra 6 and just replaced 4 2TB HD's (Hitachi HDS722020ALA330) with 4 3TB HD's (Hitachi HDS723030ALA640) and my speeds dropped from +/- 100 MB/s to 50 MB/s.
I use the x-raid2 and also the latest firmware from May 5, 2011 – Version 4.2.17.
I haven't done a factory reset but used the x-raid2 feature to replace my drives 1 by 1.
But the result is disappointing.
Are there some things I can check?

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWhat's the volume status under Volumes in Frontview? Has the expansion completed?
DId you upgrade to 4.2.17 before adding the 3TB disks or afterwards?
Btw, if you had left two of the 2TB drives in the NAS and filled the empty drive bays when you added the 3TB drives you would have more capacity than you have now. - bart_bcit_beAspirantIn FrontView everythings looks ok:
Online, X-RAID2, 4 schijven, 61% van 8331 GB gebruikt
The Expansion is finished (a few days back). I had already 4.2.17 on the device before I upgraded to the 3TB HD's. The firmware 4.2.17 worked very well with the 2TB HD's.
I have done some testing and is seems that when I copy a file +/- 2 GB from the NAS to my PC it's copying this with a speed +/- 30 MB/s. But when I copy this file back to the NAS in another folder, it's copying this with a speed of +/- 60 MB/s.
So writing to the NAS is 2x faster then reading!?!
And about your remark: I though about this (leaving 2 2TB HD in there), but I was not sure what kind of raid the system was going to user. Is that then some kind of RAID-1 for the 2TB HD's and RAID-5 for the 3TB HD's? BTW this X-RAID2 expansion is working very good. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee Retired

You might wish to open a tech support case: http://www.readynas.com/support
Edit the thread title (i.e. the subject of the first post in the thread) to include your case number.bart@bcit.be wrote:

Yes. X-RAID2 is a dual-layer array. Take a look at X-RAID2 in Action - bart_bcit_beAspirantThank you for the info.
I will do some additional tests this evening (connect laptop with cross-cable directly to NAS, replace Procurve 1800G24, start iscsi and check speeds, ...).
If the result is the same, I will open a case.
But just another question about the x-raid. If I now add 2 TB HD's (next to the 4 3TB HD's) I will still gain 2 TB of diskspace?
Thank you. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYes, do some tests.
No need for a cross-over cable. The NIC is auto-sensing. Take a look at http://sphardy.com/web/directconnect
Lower capacity disks have to be added first.
