Replacement for Ultra 4
Hei.
My Ultra 4 with four Segate 2TB is 9 years these days. In these 9 years with no problem.
Last month two discs are dead suddenly. I thought I would buy four new WD Red discs and replace the Seagate discs with the new.
But I am a little worried about the Ultra 4 and the age of it.
I assume I will buy a new Netgear ReadyNAS and four 4TB WD discs. I am using the NAS private and at home storing photos and videos.
Which Netgear ReadyNAS should i buy?
Grateful if someone can give feedback :)
Regards Paal
PS. My two post about the problem with discs:

The closest OS 6 model to what you have is an RN314. But the RN424 is the newest ReadyNAS 4-bay platform, so I'd check out prices on that one.
If budget is a big concern, you could also consider the RN214 - it's an arm-based unit that is about the same speed as the RN314 for file storage.

Perhaps the new RN424 or if you're looking for a bigger jump in performance the new RN524X.
We have 2-bay of the 420 series, and 6-bay and 8-bay models of both the 420 series and 520 series available as well.

Thanks for your reply mdgm and StephenB
After I wrote the post in the forum, I checked here in Norway and got a good price on Netgear RN314, and have ordered it with five 4TB WD Red Pro WD4002FFWX.
My lesson is to have one disk in spare :)
I use my Netgear only for backup, so speed is not important but reliability is. I bought my Ultra 4 February 2nd 2008 and with no problems until this last month. The Netgear Readynas is a fantastic product :)

Hello,
My ReadyNAS RNDU4220-100NAS died last night. I suspect a power supply failure. I wish to purchase a replacement NAS but want to avoid reformating the drives. They are my back ups. Can you please suggest a substitute that can accept the existing drives. They are 2T drives using Netgear's version of RAID.
Thanks,
Ron

The closest option would be an RN314 - but I'd suggest the RN424 instead. The RN314 is quite reliable, but it was introduced in 2013, and the RN424 is one of the newest ReadyNAS.
You might also consider the number of bays - if you can leave an open slot or two in the original install, then you get the most economical expansion later on.
Unfortunately you will need to off-load your data - all the current ReadyNAS models use BTRFS as the file system, not EXT. But you can temporarily mount your current volume in the new NAS - that is described here: https://kb.netgear.com/29957/ReadyNAS-Migrating-disks-from-RAIDiator-4-2-to-ReadyNAS-OS-6-x86
Note the title of the kb article does say "OS 6 (x86)". It won't work with arm platforms. The two models I recommended above are x86.
