Unable to access web GUI - RN104

I have two ReadyNAS, a RN102 and RN104. Recently, both refused connection to the management GUI. Luckily, the RN102 was also in the ReadyCloud and I was able to upgrade the firmware to 6.2.4, but the RN104 is still at 6.2.2 and I'm unable to upgrade it, or manage it. Is there anything I can do to get the web GUI working again aside from a factory reset?

  • Did you uninstall an App/s on your RN104 since its still on v6.2.2?
Have you tried doing OS reinstall?
  • No uninstalls for a long time - I don't have any apps running on it at all.
OS reinstall = not yet, was waiting to see if that will fix this issue or not.

Have you tried to access the web-GUI using other browsers like Firefox or Safari?
Have you tried to isolate the problem by using other PCs/laptops and access the web-GUI?

Check this link as reference guide to perform OS reinstall: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detai ... hxbQ%3D%3D
  • Yes, tried multiple computers (Win7, Win8, Android NAS Utils) and multiple browsers - I get "Connection Refused" for all of them. I think I have the same issue as others and that Apache is somehow disabled. I can see all the RN104's shares on my PCs, permissions are working normally and DLNA is working to my BluRay players. SSL has never been turned on, so I can't login that way either. My RN102 had the same issue, but I was able to upgrade the firmware through ReadyCloud - but my RN104 was not hooked up there (it does show up on the Discover page, but still won't let me access the web GUI).

You can use support (or wait and see/hope that someone here from Netgear will volunteer to look at your system). Since you don't think you've been bit by the uninstall bug, perhaps give Netgear folks a chance to reply.

If you have a scratch disk, you could also
-power down the RN104, remove the drives (labeling by slot), and then powering up with the scratch disk. That will do a factory install of 6.2.2, with a working web UI.
    -upgrade to 6.2.4.
-Power down, and reinsert the original disks. Power back up.

The NAS should automatically upgrade the old disks to 6.2.4, if it doesn't you could do a OS reinstall at that point. Note the scratch disk will be reformatted as part of this procedure.

BTW - it is also worth trying RAIDar 6.0, and see if it will let you download the logs.
  • This seems like a great suggestion - yes, I have some spare HDDs and will try this as soon as my backup is finished.
  • SUCCESS! Thanks StephenB for the idea. Here's what I did (in case someone else is in the same boat as me):

    Back up data
Remove the Raid 5 array (labeled)
Installed temp disk into slot 1
Power-up: LCD said “broken raid, check RAIDar”
Checked RAIDar – Format Disk: done.
Login to web GUI (we made it!)
NAS looks new again (FW 6.2.2)
Update firmware to 6.2.4 as prompted
Rebooted: LCD says: Updating FW… LCD then says: 6.2.4
Login to GUI: Verified 6.2.4 installed & working OK
    Shutdown normally
    Re-install the raid array
LCD: Booting…. (for several minutes), then 6.2.4 & my IP address.
RAIDar – wait for “Healthy” status (after “Starting” for a while)
Login to Web GUI – SUCCESS!
Looks like all my settings, shares, and data are in-tact.

    Thanks again!

Someone else came up with the approach, and posted it a few months ago. I'm not seeing the original post though - its buried in a flood of 6.2.2 uninstall bug posts.
