Unable to switch from 100Mb to Gigabit on Readynas Duo

Hi all,

I'm unable to make my ReadyNas Duo (V1) switch from 100Mb Full Duplex to Gigabit speed. My Router is a Netgear WNDR4500 and my NAS is connected directly to my router. On the back of my NAS the LED is green (from what I've read I think this means it's connected to a Gigabit network) but on the Readynas Frontview I can only see the options Auto-negotiation/100Mb Full-Duplex/100Mb Half Duplex...there is no option to select Gigabit. I have 2 WDC WD20EARS-00MVWB0 disks in my Readynas in X-Raid and I'm using firmware 4.1.10.... I have checked and replaced all 5E cables and am a bit at a loss of what I can do more to get this thing to work on Gigabit speed.... Currently I get write speeds of around 11MB/s...... does anyone have any ideas what I'm doing wrong ?

Thanks in advance !

Bart

  • It should automatically negotiate the speed maybe thats why it does not show Gigabit speed but i am not sure as i dont have a Duo v1,
but i have the same router as you so if you check the led's on the front panel of the router it shows what speed devices are connected at.
    LAN ports 1–4
    • Solid green. The LAN port has detected a 1,000 Mpbs link with an attached device.
    • Solid amber. The LAN port has detected a 10/100 Mbps link with an attached device.
    • Off. No link is detected on this port.

You need to select the Auto-negotation option.

It should report in Frontview if it's connected at gigabit speeds. Under Network > Interfaces the Status should be: Online / 1000 Mbit / Full-Duplex
  • It is on Auto-negotiation.... but when I check in the Status it says Online / 100 Mb / Full Duplex.... that's my problem....

What ethernet cable are you using? You should be using a Cat5e or newer ethernet cable.
  • Can you confirm if your router is showing the Nas connected at 1000 Mbit ?

If the NAS isn't showing the NAS as connected at 1000 Mbit I don't see why the router would.

Just wondered if it may be a bug in frontview not reporting correctly.
  • Hi all, the Router is not showing the NAS as connected at 1000Mbit (the modem LED is amber). My PC is connected at 1000Mbit (Green Led on modem). I have switched the kabels but still no luck, the modem won't connect as 1000Mbit. I'm using Cat5e cables btw.
  • Guys, it's solved....one of the cables was indeed faulty...a bad contact sometimes ...when I tried with other cables I didn't switch off the NAS and Router...I have now done a hard reboot of both the NAS and router and it works perfectly...thanks all for the help !
  • It was a good bet that it was the cable after you said both nas and router was showing connected at 100 mbit
it was highly unlikely both would report wrong nice to see you have it sorted.
