Hi again guys,
I know i posted this a year ago (finally got brave and pushed into try to do an upgrade).
Is it the same procedure and are there some limit on how high (or recommended version) i can update it to?
Now its R4toR6_6.3.5.bin that seems to be the latest stable one.
Otherwise i'm will do the following:
- Backup.. Backup.. Backup....
- Check my backups...
- Install PREP4TOR6_0.1-x86.bin from frontview.
- install R4toR6_6.3.5.bin from front view.
- restart..
- Put all my data back and hopefully run os6.3.5
Do you anticipate any problems in the future with for example OS6.x.x updates or Apps that could become incompatible?
I'm only running:
PHP5
Mysql
Mysqladmin
Python 2.7
Jenkins
Couchpotato
PLEX
Sickbeard
SabNzbd
transmission
Logitech Media Server
MySQLBackup
(and a few websites thru Apache)
Thank you in advance and hopefully i get some more curage from all your good answers.. :smileyvery-happy:
Best regards
Hans

There is a procedure to downgrade your legacy system back to OS4 if you don't like OS6. This procedure also requires a factory reset (wipes all data, settings, everything).

Hi mgdm,
i thought you emigrated to Artica or something.. :smileyvery-happy::heart: (you prolly had to much to do so you forgot the PERL problem... :-) )
Yes i am aware of the downgrade option but i probably will stay on OS6 if i can get some support on my questions above, about the life span on OS6 on legacy devices.
What will happen if either apps or OS6 undergo some development that requires upgraded apps or OS?
I know this is a tricky question and i will not hold you or anyone accountable since this is not supported officially by NetGear.

viperhansaI would think it should work on legacy devices for a while to come yet. If we were to do a major kernel upgrade and not update some things for legacy devices there could be some lost functionality but other than that it should run fairly well.
Ramtecrob they are two separate things. I would do the BIOS upgrade first (if you are running an old BIOS), then replace the CPU and then after confirming it has come up fine consider upgrading to OS6.
