Upgrade single disc NV+ V2 system

Hi all,

I currently have a single ST3500630AS 465 GB drive in my NV+ V2 system and after copying my music and some of the movies from my ageing WHS v1 box it's clear I am going to be out of space quite quickly. What didn't register when I originally read the manual was that each additional disc replicates at the lowest volume size. I had hoped to add my 2TB WDc WD20EARS-22MVWB0 and had interpreted the compatibility listing of 'Caviar Green WD20EARX' to mean the X was any drive in that range (as all the seagate etc. listing are very model specific.) however I have just seen an OEM HDD listed as EARX.

So, first off, is my drive compatible/supported? Secondly is there an easy way to swap the original 0.5TB drive for the 2TB drive without loosing everything?

Regards,

First, the drive is not on the HCL, so as far as Netgear is concerned it is not supported. I don't know if it would work in a v2 or not. I don't recommend any Caviar Green for NAS use myself - though I do have some WD20EARS installed on my NV+ v1, over time I am replacing them with WDC Red. One issue with many of the Caviar Green drives (including the WD20EARS) is that the load cycle count builds very rapidly.

Second, you can get a second 2 TB drive, and either insert it in slot 3 or hot-swap it in slot 1. Adding it to slot 3 would give you 2.5 TB of space, hot-swapping it into slot 1 would give you 2.0 TB of space. (The remaining space is what gives you protection from a single drive failure).
