USB external drive - Could not find a known filesystem on it

Hi - I have a very new external USB drive (myBook 4To from WD) that works fine with my ReadyNas 314 for a while (around 2 days with a full backup), but after unplugging it using the "Eject" command then plugging it again it is not accepted any more per the ReadyNAs314... The message I get now is => External Storage device 'WDC Wxxxx' connected, but could not find a known file system on it.

This USB drive is working perfectly on two other computers, one running Windows Seven Pro - one with Windows 8.1 pro!!!
What can be wrong with this USB drive - I am able to connect a different WD external drive which is accepted per the ReadyNas!!!

I have had to run a chkdsk /f from my seven computer in order to get it back working with the ReadyNAs !!!
It's nice but then what is the thing I have not correctly done ? Will it happen again and again ?
Thanks if someone could clarify this for me... or could tell me what I did wrong...

Joyeux Noel ! Happy Christmas !
Alain

  • I had the same issue, that is after using 'eject' on front-end web, USB drives were not detected anymore. Only way I could get ReadyNAS to detect the drives again was by rebooting it. So try that once if you had not already
