- michelefacciniAspirantI deleted the new created page from phpMyadmin...installed WP Htaccess control plugin... I still would like to know, from the Putty shell, how to trace hidden file (which synthax command to use) to be able to copy this file on my desktop (to keep a copy in case I do something wrong...).Please Linux users....give me an answer. Thanks !
- sphardy1ApprenticeUnless you really need it, I would recommend refraining from making any changes that require the use of .htaccess.
While it can be done, the way in which Netgear has setup the Apache Web Server on their NAS means that .htaccess files do not work by default, and getting around this requires some significant changes to your Apache setup. Given the problems you have already had, this would perhaps be better to try at a later stage.
As far as I am aware, the only builtin feature of Wordpress that requires .htaccess files is if you wish to change your permalink structure - a nice to have feature, but by no means necessary. (The multi-blog network installation of Wordpress also requires .htaccess files, but I suspect you are not heading that route)
As for the file location - it will be in the root of your Wordpress installation and so you can easily copy it via standard share access. Note that once you have wordpress and mysql properly running, there is very little you should ever have to do from the SSH commandline
