Will upgrading firmware 6.1.6 to 6.2.2 erase my data?
Hi Everyone,
I have a small question regarding upgrading firmware from 6.1.6 to 6.2.2.
Will erasing firmware 6.1.6 to 6.2.2 also erase any data I have stored in the device?
I am looking into upgrading firmware because I have been getting btrfs-endio-wri Tainted errors alot and the device just stops working.
I am hoping upgrading the firmware would fix this issue.
Thank you very much in advance!

- RXLuminaryI think updating the firmware from v6.1.6 to v6.2.2 won't harm the data. However, it would be best that you should always have a back up all of the data stored in the NAS. Just to inform you, there is an issue with v6.2.2 wherein the web-GUI will not be accessible after you have uninstall an App/s.
- js0823AspirantThank you for quick reply!
Which OS version would you recommend?
If I am not using any apps, would 6.2.2 be fine? - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI'd probably go to 6.2.3 beta (since the problem is fixed there, and from forum feedback it appears to be stable).
- RXLuminaryHere is the link to the Beta Firmware 6.2.3: viewtopic.php?t=78866
Additional info, you cannot revert the firmware back to v6.1.x after you have updated the firmware to v6.2.x. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserMaybe upgrade to 6.1.9 first, and see if that resolves the problem? Then you have the option of waiting for 6.2.3 to be released.
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThe messages you are getting most likely are related to a cleanup of snapshots or some other heavy load on the system.
Updating the firmware definitely would be recommended.
If you still have issues after the firmware update, send me your logs (see the Sending Logs link in my sig) and I may have some suggestions. - js0823AspirantGreat thank you so much for your replies guys!
I will go ahead and upgrade it to 6.1.9 and see if that helps, and wait for 6.2.3 to come out afterwards.
Thank you!
