Windows 10 keeps forgetting ReadyNas
I have been trying to use an RN212D23-100NES with windows 10 (on an expensive windows 10 laptop) for many months and it has never worked properly. I completely gave up and stopped using it months ago...

I run two RNAS 104's and both have a similar problem to that described and have done for 2+ years. Both NAS are running with OS 6.6.0 (current) and both loaded with 4 disks configured as Raid 5 and no optional apps other than SMB Plus (1.0.4)
The effect is that when doing a backup by file copy (5,000+ files, big and small) Windows 10 Explorer hangs and eventually indicates that it has lost the connection to the RNAS. Trying again usually kicks the copy off again, but it can need that every 5 minutes or so (which is kind of irritating in a 2-3 hour copy process).
Some time ago (I forget the details) an OS patch was published to deal with this and it worked, but the issue returned with subsequent OS updates.
However, turn off real time antivirus scanning on the NAS and all is resolved. I don't like it as a solution and all I can deduce is that the AV process is causing a timeout on the Windows copy.
I then updated SMB PLus to the current version (1.0.5) and restarted the real time AV scanning. All now seemed well.
So to anyone with a Windows connect problem I'd say make sure you are up date (main firmware and apps), usually sensible anyway, and if that doesn't fix it try disabling the real time anti-virus scanning.

Hi Grumpy-Wombat,
Just wanted to verify if you were able to try out the new firmware?
Regards,

Thanks - all updated but I haven't tried a big backup yet. Will do in the next couple of days.

Hi
I've just finished a test with the 6.6.1 firmware and can report that the "hang" from Windows 10 still happens with AV enabled. Rebooting the device without AV and telling Windows 10 to continue makes it work again.
Unfortunately, that is not all and for the first time I'm seeing what look like other problems in the logs. This is a 4x2TB configuration arranged as a single Raid 5 volume. It currently has 2.32TB out of 5.44TB free. These are all new messages since the 6.6.1 firmware upgrade; there have been no "red" errors at all since new over two years ago. Not at my happiest and am not about to upgrade my other units.
Guess I'll have to do as it says and contact technical support.

I went into the admin page for my readynas. It said it had version 6.6.0 I asked it to check for upgrades. It said there weren't any so I manually downloaded the upgrade to 6.6.1 and manually forced the readynas to upgrade. It seemed to do so Ok .. but .. No change. STILL windows 10 keeps forgetting my readynas and it is STILL not usable. And, by the way, I have NEVER had the antivirus enabled, so fixes for that probably won't ever help. Can someone please fix this. It has been MONTHS AND MONTHS AND MONTHS since I was able to use my EXPENSIVE network storage drive. It is just an expensive ornament.

Reading through the thread I am a bit unclear on what's wrong. Is it only that the nas doesn't show up in the network list in windows explorer? Or are there other issues?

This really sounds like a Windows problem, not a NAS one, but I can't put my finger on the cause. When Win10 "forgets", can you still access it via web, SSH, or from another computer? If you can, then that really points to a Windows problem. Or if you are runnning a firewall other than the Windows one, maybe something there.
If you can't access it via any menns, is it somehow hopping IP addresses or is something else conflicting with it? If you have it set to a fixed Ip address via the NAS GUI, have it in the same range your router assigns addresses, and don't also have it reserved in the router, an IP address conflict is certainly a possibility.

Phil99 can you send in your logs (see the Sending Logs link in my sig)?
