Wireless IP address switching
I want to install eight WAX630E access points (APs) in a large warehouse. All APs will be hardwired on Cat 6 back to a gigabit switch that has a 2.5 Gb uplinked to a cable modem connected to the inte...

Hello Kurt,
We're not using Insight. We have just installed three WAX630E APs spaced out in a building all connected via a switch to a cable modem router. Everything works OK, but once you connect one specific AP you stay connected to that one even if move and are now closer to a different one. Everything works OK but performance drops when roaming. Is there an easy solution for AP/cell switching?
Thank you

Quick answer :
Yes, when client roams on the same SSID-VLAN, it will keep the IPaddress.
If you use Insight, you can turn on 802.11KVR on the SSID, this will help clients roam faster to the nearest AP.
This is called network assisted roaming.
If you want use standalone AP and AP UI to configure.
you can still turn on 802.11K and V.

Also turn on higher data rates, this will
1) Reduce the active AP cellsize
2)Encourage the clients to roam faster to keep the higher datarates (speeds).

Hello,
I simlpy have three WAX630Es do I put the same SSID in all three? Can 802.11 k/v band steering work if I don't use VLANs? I don't have Insight. Is it required? If I just use three WAX630Es without 802.11k/v and Insight, will a client connect to one of the three APs and simply stay connected to that one even if they move closer to another one?
Thank you

Yes, the standard config for simple Wi-Fi AP - same SSID, same security, ...

Of course, why not?

Not as long as you stick to WPA2-PSK only.

This is the reason to make all that...
