Every day I am (trying) to play games online I get huge lag spikes (999 ping), last time this happened I tried pinging, and got this result:

As you are guessing this is not normal. I am using a stationary computer with an Asus PCE-N53 network card on Windows 8.1 (can't use a cable). I live in a large household and I've noticed the people sharing this Internet have many devices, which can add up to 8-10 in total. Is this the cause?

Sometimes it works just fine, and sometimes it's a nightmarea. Any ideas? Any further tests I can do?

When sharing a connection not much you can do if they are heavy users especially if they are using wireless too. You could try to add some priority rules and or upgrading your ISP plan.

I'm not sure if CGxx has QoS capability but if so I would try that first if that helps. Off course if you have small bandwidth you probably are lacking of speed to cover the needs

Here's another screen, similar behavior. You can see that the response time is quite good but then it spikes all of a sudden.

If the other users on the network are hogging the bandwidth, wouldnt it constantly have higher response times?

Anyway the bandwidth is not an issue at all, because I have 200 Mbit/s which usually yields about 15-20 MB/s (speedtest), its the latency, more specifically the spikes. It wasn't like this a few months ago.

And unfortunately the router does not have any QoS. Is there anything at all to do? Better router?

Test the results with only single device and compare 🙂

I have no control over it, I'm renting a room in a house. I can't tell what makes it run smooth, and when this starts happening. But I think it usually works fine in the mornings.

And yes searay, it is supplied by the ISP I believe...

The DHCP Client Lease Info is where I can see how many devices are connected at the moment right?

I think you already answers yourself when in the morning works welleaning you have less user.

More user on wireless will decrease in performance.

Since it's a ISP provided device your landlord needs to get involved.

May need to upgrade the service.

I mean I haven't confirmed it but I think it works better. However it wasn't like this a few months ago, and I doubt that many more devices are connected now. And I don't think I need to upgrade the internet service since I have a nice bandwidth, just that the ROUTER is giving me lag spikes periodically... I mean, 7 devices for example, it should be able to handle that, right?

Only way you are going diagnose is limited he usage start looking at simply someone are using more bandwidth for what their are doing or maybe hardware is an issus with 3100 side.

You can assume all day long but only way to figure out is to diagnose by one at a time
